How can you be against marriage/civil unions, and yet be for citizenship for foreign LGBT spouses?

Can you guys regularly update this as the season progresses? I love this. It makes a HUGE impact on my decision, and I hope I can help pull people to a more equality based vote, versus a bias because ‘IM REPUBLICAN BECAUSE MY PARENTS ARE!!!”

At first I assumed Karger was a liar…then I remembered who he is and realized he’s just a fool in the wrong party. 

Ron Paul has said he is opposed to repealing Defense of Marriage Act. And, since he is opposed to either civil unions or marriage for gay couples I don’t see how he can be listed as supporting the use of base chapels to perform the ceremonies he doesn’t want performed at all. 

The fact that Obama has 2 “maybe”s on here makes me really sad.

Wait…how the hell can Ron Paul be in favor of repealing DOMA and allowing LGBs to have on base chapel weddings, yet be against marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnership??? That’s so damn stupid! 

Huntsman is in favor of civil unions and domestic partnerships, but is against equal pay and benefits for LGBT servicemembers??? Again, that is stupid! 

Hypocrites.

Reading this is just another reason to NOT vote Republican. They disgust me. 

If this chart is an accurate representation of the candidates’ positions, what I learn here is what I’ve always known: Even the most “tolerant” Republican is unacceptable to me. I may be utterly disillusioned with President Obama, but he’s miles ahead of any of the GOP candidates in the race.

First of all, do not pick your President based on LGBT views, pick them for their “ability” to run a country! Had we done this last election, we would not be in this mess currently!
As for me, it’s more important that we fight our battles for equality in the courts, its much easier to get a majority vote and once the Supreme Court makes it’s decision in our favor, we won’t need to worry if the President agrees or not!

I have to correct something here:  Ron Paul has stated in one of the recent debates that, while he doesn’t believe in Gay marriage, he also states that he will allow it under his presidency unchallenged if the states vote yes on it.  So…possibly a maybe?

Ron Paul does not support protection from private job discrimination for anyone.  He is against Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Although he does support the rest of the Civil Rights Act, including protection for federal government employees.  I’ve never heard his opinion regarding formal protections for LGBT federal government employees.  He has had openly gay staff, so I assume he is probably personally indifferent to gay people.

Ron Paul’s support for DOMA seems to be only for the provision that says other states do not have to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.  I honestly don’t think he realizes it also prevents any federal recognition of marriages performed in those states given his statements on the matter.  He could probably have his mind changed on this issue the same way it was changed on DADT.  He was one of five Republicans to vote to end that idiotic policy.

He says that he thinks marriage should be left up to the states as much as possible and he would like to do away with most of the taxes and programs that represent the 1000+ federal marriage benefits.  He is very ill-informed on gay rights issues.  His main focus has always been on economic issues and not social issues which are the only places you will hear him mouth talking points for a reason.  He is still a politician after all.

Who appoints supreme court justices? 

Ron Paul is personally against gay marriage, but he does not attempt to force his views on anyone else.
He often states that he believes any contract or relationship between consenting adults should be no concern of the government, and that the government has no place in marriage and deciding who can marry who.
He wants gov’t out of it. I find this chart to be misleading for that reason.
Also, he was the only Republican in the first debate who did NOT support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

I believe he is also against repealing DOMA because he does not think you should be forced to accept, say, Texas’ definition of marriage in New York.
DOMA keeps states from being forced to accept other states’ definitions of marriage.

Yea, give him a maybe, which is quite an advance considering he is toast in the finals for the nomination. Probably because he is an intelligent Texan male candidate. Very rare species.

What DOMA means is that when  you are just driving through Texas and get hit by some drunken Ya-hoo there your NY marriage is invalidated and you and your NY spouse are suddenly legal strangers any y’ll are SCREWED!
