Lady Gaga Attends Video Music Awards in Drag (Video)
Gaga makes a pretty convincing man... who may be in need of a shower.
As many of us saw last night (or heard about today), Lady Gaga opened the MTV VMAs last night with a performance of her new single “Yoü and I.” Or rather, Jo Calderone, Gaga’s male alter-ego, performed.
Gaga was still in character when (s)he accepted the award for “Best Female Video,” and “Jo” accepted on Gaga’s behalf. Gaga remained in character when “he” presented Britney Spears with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard VMA, and they even shared a quick smooch.
After the awards, Gaga talked to the press as Jo, and discussed some of… his thoughts about Gaga, Britney Spears and the brightness of the press room.
Reporter: Who is Jo, and how much longer will he be with us?
Gaga: I’ll be here for about five more minutes…?
What do you guys think of this alter ego? Is Gaga helping to abolish traditional ideas of gender and sexuality, or do you feel like this is just a stunt?
