Crazy Pastor Barton: Support Gay Rights and God Will Curse You!

"You can tell if the person is homosexual because they have crazy eyes, like this!"

Apparently our previous plea to get Pastor David Barton off the airwaves fell on deaf ears. In case you don’t know the name, he’s the one who said we should scalp NY Republicans who supported gay marriage. Yeah, that one.

Clearly the scalping recommendation wasn’t the first instance of his craziness (imagine that). Can’t teach an old dog new tricks (but you can teach them to love you for you).

The newest slice of Heaven (see what I did there?) comes from Barton’s week-long stint on Kenneth Copeland’s “Believer’s Voice of Victory” (groan) TV program from last year. We’ve even got a clip for you!

The scripture says not only does God not approve homosexuality, it says He does not approve those who do approve of homosexuality. So I’ve got a ballot, I’ve got a vote, I vote for somebody that approves homosexuality, God doesn’t approve me if I approve those who approve homosexuality.

Does God approve me if I don’t approve you because you don’t approve people who approve homosexuality? What does it even mean that God doesn’t approve me? Am I trying to take out a loan or something? I’d imagine God would be a pretty tough cookie as a loan officer.

Anyway, aside from the bad repetition and the apparent lack of the word “of” in Pastor Barton’s speech, we’ve got the classic case of fear-mongering and selective quoting of Bible passages to get people to support his cause. Way to stick to your guns, big guy.

I’d also like to point out this quote from the above clip:

“See? The Bible is so good about helping us know how to vote.”

Just… let that sink in for a sec…

Moving on, there’s another episode where Barton talks about the same punishment for people who support abortion. We can only assume that there are also episodes condemning those who like foreign cars or computer games or the color yellow.

Fo’ real though: Pastor Barton, you’re crazy. I just find it very odd that you feel as though you’re guaranteed a spot in Heaven after you do nothing but spout hate and wish awful things on the LGBT community and its supporters. Shame on you.
