What Has Obama Done for LGBT Americans? (Incredible Infographic!)

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what your “evolving” President has done for the LGBT community while in office. The answer? Quite a freaking lot, actually.

Extending benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees? Check. Signing the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act into law? Double check. Ending gender identity discrimination in the federal government? Recording an It Gets Better video? Declaring DOMA unconstitutional? Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell? Hosting anti-bullying Conference at the White House? Restoring sexual orientation to the United Nations protected human rights?

Check, check, check, check, check, and check.

Faced with a laundry list of still present inequalities, it can become easy for the LGBT community to flippantly wave off President Barack Obama’s contributions to our lives. His devolving stance on some matters doesn’t help. But the fact of the matter is that no president, politician, or single person has done more for the LGBT community in the entire history of our country. No joke.

So do the man that has done so much for you a favor, and share this infographic with your pals, peers, and families. We’ve got a big vote ahead of us next year, and your biggest ally could use all the help he can get.

How exactly is lifting the ban on HIV+ immigrants a leap for homosexuality in this country? Aren’t we past the idea that HIV/AIDS is a gay man’s disease?

well… the reason the law was put in place was a DIRECT attack on gay men, and done out of pure homophobia. repealing that ban was repealing the federal definition that HIV/AIDS is a gay mans disease – directly. It’s all related.

I am not a fan of Obama at all but I do have to give him the credit that he has done more for the LGBT community than anyone has ever done before, and for that I will forever be great-full. I just hope that he continues to support the LGBT community and that other political leaders take a lesson from him.

While I agree he has done some good and that he is far better than any NeoCon (McCain, Bush or Palin)… I think this infographic really blows what he’s done out of proportion. As commander and chief he could have ended DADT on the first day without congressional consent. And he is so quick to declare something unconstitutional and not defend it… he could have done the same for DADT as well then no? Also the Matthew Shepard’s bill was not really an achievement per se for him because it was thrown onto the National Defense Authorization Act for 2010, which increased our budget on all these wars he was suppose to end. I put blame with the last 100 years of our government, especially the executive branch, which has grossly extended it’s powers through executive mandates/orders (laws). Also he didn’t repeal the Patriot Act(or declare it unconstitutional and refuse to defend it), instead he expanded on it. We also should not forget that he publicly does not support gay marriage, but rather civil unions (although he says “his thoughts our evolving” in hopes of keeping us satiated until after the election). I’m sorry… being a disgruntled atheist liberal, I am still voting for Ron Paul, who wants an end to the wars, an end to the Patriot Act and an end to government involvement in marriage in any way. His words can be spun in certain ways that if you don’t research it you might believe it… But just watch 15mins of him doing interviews and you see the man is genuine. Also his voting record is impeccable, never voting for something unconstitutional (even with perceived benefits). He has always voted no on any congressional pay raises and he has waived his plush retirement plan and as a doctor he never took medicaid or medicare but also never turned down a patient (or let them die! @Wolf Blitzer)…

The animals of the village were living in fear of a wolf that had made his home a mile away, and decided they needed someone to protect them. After all of the big and strong animals made excuses why they couldn’t do it the village finally settled on the honeybee, who reluctantly agreed.

The first morning after the honeybee was chosen he did as bees always do, and flew around.

“Oh, look!” said the duck (who had been too cowardly to do the job himself). “The honeybee is protecting us by flying around, making sure that the wolf isn’t hiding anywhere in the village!”

“The honeybee is a great protector!” said the lamb (who also had turned down the job offer).

The rest of the village thought this was a little premature, and a little bit of an exaggeration, but took the two cowards’ words for it. After all, no one else had ever flown over the village before, so it must be an accomplishment.

The next day the honeybee went from flower to flower, carrying pollen with him, as bees always do.

“Wow! Look at that!” the lamb bleated! “The bee is carrying pollen!”

“The bee is making the flowers grow! No one else can make the flowers grow!”

“Truly the bee has done more for this village than any other leader we’ve had!”

The other animals again thought this was a bit of an exaggeration, but none of them had ever made a flower grow (they kind of thought they grew by themselves) so they accepted it as accurate.

On the third day the bee carried nectar to his comb and started making some honey, as bees always do.

“LOOK AT THE BEE!” gushed the duck.

“THE BEE IS MAKING FOOD THAT WILL FEED US ALL!” bleated the lamb.

“THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THAT NO BEE, LEADER, OR SINGLE ANIMAL HAS DONE MORE FOR THIS VILLAGE IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. NO JOKE!” quacked the duck as loud as he could.

“Okay, now even I’m calling me shit” said the bull (who had opted out of the job because of his bursitis).

That night, the wolf crept toward the village. The honeybee, alert as ever, dive bombed him. He buzzed and buzzed in the wolf’s left ear, then flew over to the right, in an attempt to distract him. The wolf snapped wildly at the bee, but the bee was too fast and kept up the delaying tactic. Finally, in a desperate move, the honeybee jabbed his stinger in the wolf’s eye. The wolf howled in pain and ran away from the village as fast as he could, vowing never to return.

Unfortunately, as happens in these things, by stinging the wolf in the eye the honeybee’s stinger was ripped from his body. He bled to death and fell to the ground.

The next morning the animals of the village gathered around the bee’s corpse.

“Don’t you understand?” pleaded the duck. “The bee gave his life fighting the wolf.”

“The bee saved all your lives,” the lamb meekly bleated.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’ve heard it all before,” said the bull as the other animals wandered off, leaving the bee’s body to rot.

The moral of this story is: no one likes a resume padder.
