Lady Gaga isn’t one to let something like one of her little monsters committing suicide shortly after quoting her go unnoticed. Upon receiving the heartbreaking news of Jamey Rodemeyer’s death, Gaga has demanded a meeting with President Obama to DO SOMETHING ABOUT BULLYING in our country. Something that works, that is.

Gaga rightly tweeted to her almost 14 million followers that bullying must be considered a hate crime if we have any chance of stopping it.

I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey

And you know what? If anyone can instigate lasting cultural change on this matter, we sincerely believe it’s Gaga. Her Equality is the Prime Rib of America speech is seen by many as a cultural turning point in the fight to repeal DADT, which you may have noticed finally kicked the bucket this week.

And while we are hoping our butts off that Gaga and Obama can come up with an actual plan together, they won’t be able to do it without all of us. So won’t you please join us, Facebook, CNN, Cartoon Network, and Sports Illustrated in signing a pledge to call out bullying when we see it, online or otherwise?

Our fingers are crossed for you, LG. Here’s hoping that Jamey Rodemeyer is the very last LGBT life lost to bullying in America.

Lady Gaga is fighting for equality. While she may be straight, she is a role model for the LGBTQ community. Also, if you did not know, her best friend and costume designer committed suicide. Lady Gaga has rallied for several causes, including the repeal of DADT and stopping bulling – all under the umbrella of LGBTQ equality. If you believe that helping others is “self-promotion” then all people who sought equality would also be guilty, including: Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, among others. Those who are able to influence the cultural normative, especially when those norms bring inequality, should use there power and social status – for change, fairness, and a safer environment.

Are you telling me if a 14yo boy posted a youtube video online, citing you as someone they looked up to and kept close by as a source of strength you wouldn’t be pissed off that a year later that same boy committed suicide? I know I would be. But I also have a heart.

Its so great that we live in today’s age that our youth can have voices to speak for them, such as Lady Gaga and especially Anderson Cooper as well. The voices of our youth, even if they seem so small, get empowered by these powerful people. It’s just a shame that we need these powerful people for such a reason. Hopefully IT WILL GET BETTER!

Its fuckin awesome that Lady Gaga is using her celebrity influence to do good in the world. I truly believe she will be our generation’s equivalent to Elvis or Michael Jackson.

SO glad our generation has a POSITIVE role model to look up to. Totally not blinded by the pessimistic or, some say, realistic opinion that Gaga is capitalizing on the gay community. This boy drew HOPE & INSPIRATION from his favorite SINGER. Something that I can’t even say about my parents/religion. That is amazing.
