VIDEO: How Blog-to-Brick Will Save Gay Media While Kickin’ Butt
Since we announced our Booty’s New Orleans concept, we have gotten a ton of positive feedback. It was very timely as well, given the LGBT blogosphere’s conversations on the “death” of gay media. As it becomes increasingly difficult for smaller players to compete in a sea full of mainstream blogs – both due to the fact that gays are reading these outlets and because there is only so much time people have to spend consuming content online – there is a real risk that the LGBT community could lose outlets that are vital to our sense of community.
We truly believe in our new paradigm of blog-to-brick, where media companies will have to think “beyond the pageview” to ensure their survival. That’s why we launched our crowdfunding campaign to ask for your support in our exciting vision. We need to build experiences and products that resonate with our community – and that is why we’re building a physical manifestation of Unicorn Booty in the real world. We want to continue to build this awesome community in the real, physical world, so that we can get to know many of you on a face-to-face basis. The Internet is a great tool, but in the end it really is just a tool that should connect us to people in the physical world.
Here’s a little video that goes more into detail about how going blog-to-brick will kick butt, and save gay media at the same time. We say ‘save’ in the most literal sense, and very tongue-in-cheek. We don’t think that gay media is going anywhere – us gays love to talk – but we do believe that quality gay journalism is at risk given the lack of large budgets to make such in-depth pieces possible.
