Mother of Transgender 10-Year-Old Discusses Hormone Blocking, Acceptance

Proud Mama Saffron James and daughter Livvy.

We told you last month about the 10-year-old British boy who returned to school after summer vacation as a girl. After an incredibly supportive school assembly about gender dysphoria, Livvy generally received all the acceptance a young girl going through some big changes in life could ever hope for from her classmates.

And then the parents of those classmates found out about Livvy and blew a gasket for having not been consulted – about what? Livvy’s gender identity? The school assembly? The fact that diversity exists in this world? What?

Livvy has since been pulled out of school because of the cruel behavior not of her classmates, but of their parents. Livvy and her parents were met with one too many “freak family” comments after that final bell had rung for the day.

Now Livvy and her mother are speaking out about their family and the changes they’ve gone through over the past year in an article for Daily Mail titled, “Why I let My Son Live as a Girl.” And man oh man, we just have to say that this might be the most loving, logical, inspirational and supportive family on the planet.

The teaser I’ve shared with you here is merely a short piece of a longer article. Livvy’s story is simultaneously inspiring and heartbreaking, and should be considered required reading by all Unicorn Booty fans.

So go on now, read the rest HERE.

What do you think of Livvy’s family and how they’ve navigated decisions most will never have to make? Hormone blocking, school enrollment, clothes shopping, transitioning in a small town – these momentous crossroads might have crippled a family, but instead the James’ are more in love with one another than ever.

Absolutely inspiring.
