While we can't prove that Shirley MacLaine was a gay man in a past life, she was certainly dress by one for this photo.

“One of the explanations for homosexuality and transgenderism could, I believe, be a profound identification with a recent incarnation as a member of the opposite sex.

Well, as a believer reincarnation myself, the idea make sense to me. Though it may not be true in all cases and it may sound odd.

Basically, it is possible that some people that identify as transgender or homosexual may do so because their past life as an opposite gender was strong enough to imprint this life.

Mind you, it doesn’t really explain bisexuals, and there are many instances where this is more likely NOT the case, but it’s a theory, and I wouldn’t take it as much more than that.

I am bisexual myself, and always have believed that I will end up with whomever I am suppose to. Perhaps, with this theory, my past lives of both genders are so strong it has caused a bit of confusion in my life. Maybe with bisexuals, the conflict lies with the gender from a past life and the gender from their current life… who knows.

On a random note, I often wonder about a past life of mine… I notice that when I run up the steps in sweat pants, I often cling on to them like a woman would a dress or something… I sometimes think this could be due to my being a woman in a past life… who knows. I have my own thoughts on reincarnation…

it makes sense if the soul has incarnated as a woman for many lifetimes, and then experiences its first incarnation as a man. my thought is that if that soul continues to incarnate as a man, it may become bisexual. all things can be experienced by a soul if it chooses.

It’s almost a harmless idea. The issue is that if accepted some folks would conclude homosexuality is an error, in the case of men -that the masculine incarnation is masculine to learn heterosexual masculinity.

Plato’s myth (I think it’s Plato – it’s also in Hedwig and the Angry inch) suggest in the beginning were man, woman and hermaphrodite, and the human creation was so powerful that the God(s) split the people in two, such that the man became two men, the woman became two women and the hermaphrodite became one male and one female. Sex and romance then is considered us trying to connect again with our missing half. I like that model better.

If for no reason other than hormones, a gay male bottom and a gay female ‘top’ have a completely distinct experience of sex and arousal from heterosexual men or women.

Not necessarily a bad theory if you believe in reincarnation, which to an agnostic like me seems like just as viable a spiritual theory as any other. Though what does that say about androgynous bisexuals? That we simply embrace all of our past lives’ gender identities and orientations, I guess?

I was actually talking about this with my friend MINUTES before this was posted to FB; we were discussing our past lives, and I came up with pretty much the same theory.

My friend feels as if he was a female in at least one of his 5 past lives; he’s homosexual.

I was a woman in my first life, man in my second, and I’m female now. I’m bisexual.

Not saying this is the ONLY factor, but it plays a key part.

I dont need this. To my mind I was born a woman with as birth defect. My body turned out to not match my brain. End of story, not a disorder, not a mental health issue. Just plain old birth defect. Other than that I am perfectly happy and normal.

I agree with the general consensus.

While I do not believe in reincarnation, I certainly recognize it as possible. It makes sense, and conversely fails to make sense, on several points — just like any other school of spirituality.

As for Ms. MacLaine’s theory here, I agree — based on the tenets of rebirth/reincarnation — that this is quite possible. It doesn’t mean that I’m going to run around screaming that I’m a female soul as a result, but it’s not something to so quickly dismiss.

anyone who is saying this is bashing against homosexuality doesn’t know how to read and is just wanting attention. As a believer in reincarnation, this makes sense to me. But I also agree that this probably isn’t ALWAYS the case. I think simply people are just gay. I don’t think there is much a reason behind it besides “that’s how nature works. The end.” But it might explain SOME gay men or women’s being. Or some transgender people’s being. I don’t see why that’s bad. Actually, anyone who thinks this is bad is slightly sexist. Are you saying that it’s impossible for you to have ever been a woman or a man, assuming past lives exist?

1) For the people who are thinking souls don’t have a gender, you are (probably) correct. If you were living as a woman previously and are now a man, that would be where the gender memories come in.
2) For the people who are trying to tell this woman that her crazy isn’t the right crazy, you are just as crazy as she is. Nobody knows what happens after death, which is why religions were created to explain the mysteries beyond our little lives. This is something I’ve believed and have said myself for years. If you give it any reasonable about of thought, and are willing to accept the possibility of reincarnation as a real possibility, then you can see where this could fit into reasoning for “gender confusion”.
