First Lesbian Homecoming King & Queen in America Crowned at CA High School

Rebeca Arellano and Haileigh Adams celebrate their newfound royal status.

Rebeca Arellano and Haileigh Adams bucked with tradition at California’s Patrick Henry High School this weekend by becoming the first lesbian couple to be named both Prom King and Prom Queen.

The outpouring of support from their classmates seen in the video below will melt even the most jaded, icy heart. It’s absolutely inspiring to know that not all schools are fighting to ban even the mention that gay students exist - and that at least this one respects and honors LGBT students.

But while the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, several anonymous classmates have complained that they are ashamed of the school’s decision to end the tradition of naming a boy and a girl to the throne.

Arellano posted a statement to those who opposed her on her Facebook wall that read: “For all the girls who think tradition should be continued, go back to the kitchen, stop having sex before you’re married, get out of school and job system, don’t have an opinion, don’t own any property, give up the right to marry who you love, don’t vote, and allow your husband to do whatever he pleases to you. Think about the meaning of tradition when you use it in your argument against us.”

Well said, your highness!

Both girls have been out since freshman year, and began dating in February. Congratulations to the gorgeous couple!
