New Orleans was founded in 1718 by the French Mississippi Company, and quickly became an important port that changed hands several times before ending up in American possession. Throughout these various cultural tenures, New Orleans developed a wholly unique vibe that was unreplicated anywhere in the world.
Architecture, food, and people commingled in this international port to create the cultural gumbo that is the New Orleans of today. This delicate balance of flavors is one of the most endearing aspects of the city – it truly does not feel like America!
