Stephen Colbert to hypoChristians: Shame on you!

Stephen Colbert’s brutal smackdown of the Christian “all-knowing, all-loving creator who made all things and hates some of them” is required viewing.

Michigan has made national news this week for the passage of an anti-bullying law that includes a passage allowing Christian bullies to continue to raise hell for gay student, just so long as they really, really mean it (or have a permission slip from God).

The portion of the law that reads, “This section does not prohibit a statement of a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction” effectively neuters the entire bill to the point of making zero enforcement possible. All in the name of God.

I will certainly use my Christian Moral Conviction to “Baptize” anyone I find picking on someone who is unable to defend themselves. At this point, an eye for an eye works for me.

The text of the amendment reads so that it would seem that “statements” are okay, but “bullying” is not. There is a difference, but that difference should be self-evident and therefore should not warrant an amendment to the bill. So yeah, its addition is pretty much a loophole for the religious to exploit (but we can exploit it too if we “sincerely believe” a “moral conviction” that being Christian (or anything for that matter) is wrong… So basically anyone can bully as long as their actions are based on something other than wanting to torment people… Yeah, okay, it’s been neutered.

Things like this are why I have a mad crush on Stephen Colbert.

There was a similar bill in Kentucky, but I don’t know what became of it. Same premise, Christians could state their objections to homosexuality, and the only thing prohibited was physical contact. So, it was ok to harass another student all you want, so long as you don’t touch. It didn’t say Christians could state their objections to other religions, or to anything else, just to students perceived as anything other than heterosexual – so it’s ok to bully the gay kid, but not the kid of a different race or religion or physical ability, because that would be wrong.

It is my sincere moral conviction that Christians are good targets for violence because they aren’t good Christians if they do not turn the other cheek, and they themselves talk so much about being persecuted it’s like they are asking for it!

Too bad he didn’t mention Muslims and Islam too – the most hateful, homphobic religion in the world that commands gays be killed and 10 Islamic countries comply happily, the rest just persecute, torture and imprison us. And Michigan has the largest Muslim population in the US.

Just ask your Muslim friends if they believe gay people should be killed according to Mohammed’s command (also those who renounce Islam or criticize it, and women who marry non-Muslims). They won’t seem so nice when you hear what they really think.

You who will say ‘oh I know some Muslims and they are nice’, then we say, ask them “do you believe in Mohammed’s command that gay people be killed (along with those who leave Islam or criticize it and women who marry out of it, not to mention a few others)”? You’ll be surprised how much less nice they seem when they tell you what they really believe – if they will. Most of them will avoid answering or change the subject and that is your answer.

Not true at all, actually. Perhaps where you live, but here I know many, many devout Muslims who love the gays and support them. I even know two Muslims who are gay themselves. Every religion has its own variations (Islam having fewer than most others) and while they still believe the Qur’an is absolute they, too, believe there are fallacies within the religion.

Don’t too soon lose faith with the faithful.

Holla for level headed Christian voices. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Stephen Colbert teaches Sunday School at his church. I also didn’t know he actually is a Roman Catholic.
