NY Archbishop Forbids Catholics from Congratulating Gay Newlyweds

Most Americans attended a church or synagogue every week. These were institutions that people respected. At church, from their youngest years, Americans were taught to voluntarily obey the law; to respect other people’s property, and not steal it. Americans were taught never to lie. Americans followed these rules because they had come to believe that even if the police or court systems didn’t catch them when they broke a law, God would catch them and hold them accountable. Democracy works here because most people most of the time voluntarily obey the laws.You can say the same for capitalism…that gives us a life here in the USA few have had in history. Even the right to mock church leaders on the internet.  Our Economy and Government work because Americans have been taught in their churches that they should keep their promises and not tell lies. An advanced economy cannot function if people cannot expect that when they sign contracts, the other people will voluntarily uphold their obligations. Capitalism works because most people voluntarily keep their promises.Like Governments, Church leaders sometimes fail us…but democracy was founded on Cannon law.  All institutions fail us at times, as does the present Washington government. Respect for Women and woman’s rights began in the Catholic Church with the devotion to Mary, the mother of God, and the multitude of Female Saints. 

If true, your assertion that “Dolan, on behalf of the Catholic Church, forbids Catholics from even being happy for their newly married gay friends or offering congratulations”, would be scandalous and utterly ridiculous, fully deserving your description of “on the outer fringes of crazy town”. There is not a word in the decree to prevent Catholics from congratulating newly-weds, or celebrating the weddings with them. All that the decree does, is to prevent such celebrations on property, which is a very different matter.

There is in fact a great deal of nonsense that really is in the report deserving of ridicule: such as the claims that Jesus Christ affirmed the privileged place of marriage, and raised it to the status of a sacrament, which are completely without foundation in the Gospels, or the factually incorrect claim that marriage has “universally” recognized as between one man and one woman.

The Catholic bishops’ reaction to gay marriage, in the US and in Scotland, has indeed taken them to the outer fringes of crazy town – but not for the reasons you give.     

(1) No minor within the boundaries of these United States, legally recognized as a citizen or an alien, may enter the dwelling of, or participate in dealings with the Catholic Church, which includes but is not limited to communication with clergy (priest or deacon), attending ‘mass’ in any form, using facilities provided for, or otherwise accessible to the public, or participating in rituals thereof.

(2) No Catholic facility or property, including but not limited to parishes, missions, chapels, meeting halls, Catholic educational, health, or charitable institutions or benevolent orders, or any place dedicated, consecrated, or used for Catholic worship may allow minors to interact with them in any way whatsoever.

(4) Failure to adhere to this policy may result in the molestation or sodomizing of said minor.

The terms of this policy have already been in effect for much longer than any of us can possibly know.

 I have read documents that prove that the rape of boys in the Catholic run Irish orphanage and school system extends back into the early 1930 time frame, yet not one of the offending adults was turned over to authorities until after a lawsuit demanded the names of the offenders.  The Catholic Church is still fighting that order.  Every Pope since pius xi through the current pope have been hiding the facts and are accessories to the crime.

In protest, Ireland closed its vatican embassy.

3%, 1%, 20%, doesn’t matter.  What matters is the highly inadequate response, or lack thereof, from the Church regarding the abuse.  COVERING UP for abusers by “men of God.”  They should clean out their own closets before pointing fingers at anyone else.

Well, I guess that Honestly states the  such Marriages can be “Solemnized “and “Consecrated”.. Made Holy, validated, and are binding;… otherwise why would they  have to forbid it happening on their properties or forbid it?
