Pro Footballer David Testo Comes Out, Wishes He Would Have Sooner

Pro Soccer player David Testo came out in a recent interview, making him the first openly gay major league soccer player. 30 year old Testo played college ball at the University of South Carolina before his college career at the University of North Carolina. He played for the Colombus Crew from 2004-2006 and has spent the last 4 years in the Canadian USL playing for the Montreal Impact.

The Montreal Impact knew Testo was gay when they signed him saying it was a non-issue, even among his fellow teammates.

What an interesting time in professional sports with more and more athletes inching closer towards coming out. Rapper Fat Joe said he was aware of pro football and basketball players being gay in an article we brought to you yesterday. Is it simply a matter of time before we have an openly gay football or basketball player?

We have openly gay executives in major league sports. We have current players coming out in support of gay marriage. It would appear that the attitudes towards having gay players is changing for the better.

I am glad he came out, We need more athletes coming out in their career, and not just when they retire.

You seem to be forgetting John Amaechi, who played for the Utah Jazz/Phoenix Suns/Orlando Magic. Though he came out immediately after he stopped playing, he paved the way for people in the sports industry to open up about their sexuality.

open up about their sexuality. but I do still congratulate him, and hope that him still being in the league will help others to know that they don’t have to wait until they are done playing to come out. (there was also Denis Rodman, who came out as Bi-Sexual in the 90′s, though I still question if that was a publicity stunt, because he has never had a bf to speak of)
