Transgender Teen Found Burned to Death on Detroit Highway

Shelley Hilliard, a treasure taken from us too soon.

The disgusting worldwide trend of LGBT people being set on fire unfortunately continues today with news that a Detroit area transgender teen’s charred body was discovered on the side of I-94. The victim, Shelley “Treasure” Hilliard had been burned to death and discarded on the side of the busy road.

Henry Hilliard Jr., 19, also known as Shelley or Treasure, was last seen at 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 23 in the 900 block of Longfellow, wearing a silver dress. The 19-year-old had several piercings and tattoos, including one of cherries on the upper right arm.

Hilliard’s death, at least the seventh LGBT person burned alive in only the past six weeks across the world, is being ruled a homicide seeing as how missing persons don’t usually set themselves on fire and then march their dead bodies onto highways.

This trend has got to stop. Burning has become the homophobic equivalent of modern lynching, a terrifying new take on tying someone to a fence, in recent weeks. While individual stories continue to make local news, so far UB appears to be the only organization connecting these hate crimes.

Contact your local news, tweet Gaga and Anderson Cooper, pressure your lawmakers to take these crimes seriously! Because we can’t bear to keep preaching these crimes solely to the choir.

Attention world, STOP SETTING US ON FIRE.
