16-Year-Old Loses Mom to Suicide, Films Most Important Video You’ll Ever Watch

What a strong, beautiful girl. You go, Kait, girls like you make me so proud

My heart really goes out to her because I lost a friend to suicide although I can’t imagine loosing my mother.  It hurts a little less every day.

This video is so touching, and I’m so proud of this girl. But, I’m angered that her mom left her. I understand that her mother had something big going on, and no I don’t know the story, but I’m angry that her mom left her…
Anyways, that’s not what this video is supposed to be about. This girl is such an inspiration, and I will be sharing her video as much as I can.

Beautiful. I hope the band who plays in the background “The Band Perry” maybe finds out about her story and presents her life and warmth to a broader audience. I think these sorts of simple, brave, acts are how non-profit organizations and movements for peace and change have their roots. Just for you Kaitlin, I’m going to smile tomorrow. And hopefully the next day. And I’m going to keep on trying every day to smile. And I hope you do too.

She loved her mother, and I do not doubt her mother loved her. What a terrible loss for both.

I like the 1986 film “Crimes of the Heart,” a film about many things but striking in its comment on a mother’s suicide. One of the three adult daughters decides to kill herself but then has a remarkable revelation about her mother’s suicide. That daughter, Babe, played by Sissy Spacek, realizes in the middle of her own suicide attempt that her mother had been having a terrible, rotten day on the day she killed herself. It sounds oversimplified, but maybe it’s not. The realization transforms Babe, invigorates her will to live. (This film is very funny, by the way, and charming. And true to the emotions, fears, and desires that drive us all.)

It’s great that she made a video expressing the happiness she says her mother would’ve wanted her to show. If she can get through something like this, and help others to boot, she’s definitely a tough cookie. But obviously the death of a parent is not something one gets over quickly, especially if it’s an unexplained suicide (which I’m not sure whether this was or not).
It’s easy to get angry with the person who committed suicide, especially a parent. But considering the fact that nobody (here) really knows the full details and what was going on inside her head, I also feel for her mother. 
It’s not always a clearly thought out decision. Sometimes it is, but
other times it’s precipitated by such a barrage of mental illness that
it gets to the point where people don’t understand how to get help any
more. I don’t know if her mother struggled with mental illness, but she obviously had some inner demons.
I’ve tried to suicide two times myself (after getting ECT and trying just about every medication in the book, becoming an alcoholic after rarely drinking until I began hallucinating at 24 and having to sleep with the light on, then having two medication-related seizures) and have been forced to stay in a mental institution for much longer than I’d have liked after being served commitment papers.
I know I’ve scared people, and I know I still do sometimes – especially with how lightly I take my suicide attempts. Considering my battle with severe chronic pain and migraines, poorly managed bipolar disorder, and an intolerance to many medications, it’s actually a surprise I hadn’t tried earlier in my life than that.
I’m much better at helping others than myself.

that was very hard to watch. i like so many of you have contemplated and attempted suicide. its so utterly touching for this young lady to come out and be so kind and heartfelt.  that you kait.

wow what can i say but u r a very strong person to have gone though that n still have ur head held high. i saw this n i couldnt help but cry for u n think if i found my mom like that would i be as strong u. i think id be in a very bad place but thankfully u r strong n have made this video n have help people how r n the same place u r.  so i knew u dont know me but my lovr is there for u in this hard time.

I want to say something profound right now, but nothing is coming to mind. To lose her mother, to suicide none the less, and keep smiling.. she really is strong… I’ve almost lost my mom twice to suicide. I’m so glad she is still here.. She is my strength. I’m sorry Kait about your mom. You’ve made my night.
