Vatican Chief Exorcist Warns Yoga is a Sin, Tool of Satan

"Get fit, burn in hell for eternity." The Catholic yoga brochure pretty much writes itself.

“Practicing yoga is Satanic, it leads to evil just like reading Harry Potter,” Father Gabriele Amorth said this week.

“In Harry Potter the Devil acts in a crafty and covert manner, under the guise of extraordinary powers, magic spells and curses,” said Amorth.

As for yoga, it leads to Hinduism and “all eastern religions are based on a false belief in reincarnation,” the 86-year-old priest said.

Science can’t explain evil, added Amorth, who claims to have performed 50,000 exorcisms before retiring in 2000. He is both founder and honorary president for life of the International Association of Exorcists.

The Pope has also warned that yoga “can degenerate into a cult of the body.”

No surprise, Amorth’s favorite movie is ‘The Exorcist.’”

No surprise, The Catholic Church is full of idiots.

Most “Satanists” aren’t concerned with what is or is not evil like this. Most Satanists are actually atheists, the Church of Satan was started as a joke. Granted a pretty elaborate one, but a joke nonetheless. Anton Levay was an atheist with a pretty twisted sense of humor. The first “Black Masses” he performed were kinda slapsticky and silly, with a lot of drinking and a kind of ironic party mood.

The Catholic Church is worried that people will start to follow yoga and the teachings of J.K. Rowling rather than their own disciples; and why wouldn’t they be? Yoga brings good health, mental clarity, and a sense of interconnectivity. J.K. Rowling’s works have engaged millions of young children in reading (something the bible hasn’t done for centuries.)

I haven’t seen a comparable amount of good come out of the Catholic Church in my lifetime.

Its pretty sad that Catholics and Christians alike do not understand and recognize that the Harry Potter novels all have Christian allegories in it. Harry Potter sacrificed himself to defeat Voldermort and decided to come back to life aka Jesus’ sacrifice and him rising from the dead. Cruciatus curse, which gave you extreme pain & spread out your arms & legs in “crucifix fashion” There are so many Christian allegories it is ridiculous….I swear SOME religious people can be some idiotic. All they had to do is read the context clues to figure it out….

What i find particularly amusing about things like this is that the whole uproar about Harry Potter being a tool of the devil was generated by The Onion. In case you are unaware, The Onion is a satirical news site that is done for comedy purposes. Almost nothing they post is true, but since they do such a good job of parody most people are convinced they are watching something along the lines of CNN. The Onion ran a story years ago saying that with the advent of the Harry Potter books, the youth membership in the Church of Satan had shot up something like 600% and was still rising due to the movies coming out. A lot of pretty gullible people thought it was a real news story and spread it all over the internet, omitting where they initially heard it. I even saw a reference to it in a Reader’s Digest article years back and they apparently aren’t very good at fact checking and were trying to play it off as a real news story as well.

What makes me angry is when these morons make statements like that – and then other morons assume that all Catholics are as moronic and closed-minded. Like most Catholics, I don’t believe that yoga is evil, and I recognize that Harry Potter is a fictional series of books, not an effort at pagan conversion. Just because some idiots with fancy hats make ignorant remarks, that does not mean that the rest of us agree with them. It’s like someone listening to pretty much anything our politicians say and assuming that the rest of our country totally agrees with them and holds the same assenine beliefs. So let me see if I have the math right here. It’s 2011 and he’s 86, he retired in 2000 when he was 75. 75 years is roughly 27394 days, give or take a few depending on where the leap years fell. Assuming he started from the moment he emerged from his mother’s vagina, he had to perform almost 2 exorcisms every single day for 75 years to get up to 50000. That is extremely impressive. I will definitely spurn yoga and Harry Potter now. Someone that learned in the field of expunging demons can’t possibly be wrong, can they?
