WHOAH. Is Rick Perry for real??? This reminds me of something I just barely read actually, studying for my anthropology final:

Ideologically, modern societies were shaped by the scientific and philosophical thought of the Enlightenment … reason and rationalism came to replace the authority of religion and the supernatural and supported the English, American, French, and Haitian Revolutions, leading to the widespread establishment of constitutional representative democracies. (Bodley, 350).

Apparently, Rick Perry (and much of America?) decided the whole “making intellectual progress” thing wasn’t for them. The pre-1600′s thought process is much more comfortable and sensible. -_-

You might enjoy reading “Moral Minority,” which explores this topic, and goes into depth on the “Big Six” of the founding fathers to which everyone is constantly pointing as how the country as set up and should remain. There was not a religious zealot among them, in fact, they weren’t all even necessarily Christian in their beliefs, even if they attended a local church, which was just something you did, as a convention.

On a scale of believers, our founding fathers, who so many believe put “one nation under God,” into our Pledge of Allegiance,” were kind of on the heathenish side where God was concerned; they were more inclined towards ethics and justice.And the rights, including marriage, to which people now point as being the way our founders wanted it (one man, one woman) were rights only guaranteed to White Anglo Saxon Protestant Men who owned property. So quite a large segment of the population didn’t have these rights set in stone for them at birth..

The “under god” thing wasn’t even added into the pledge until long after they were dead. None of them were xtians either; all of them were of (original) freemasonry.

Regardless, I will never vote for someone who does not support “separation of church and state.”

Isn’t it funny how Christians seem to think that telling them to keep their views to themselves and not to hate is attacking them? Isn’t it funny how they think this is supposed to be a Christian based country? Don’t they know we were founded on Judeo Christian principles and not Southern Baptist Dogma? Don’t they know that we have a little thing known as separation of Church and State? It doesn’t just mean that they are protected (and oh boy are they) from the State but also that the state SHOULD BE protected and separate from them.

This is somewhere near to the neighborhood to Rick Perry’s
statements, but it is on my mind, and this seems to be the appropriate place to
post it. It has to do with Chick-Fil-A,
and I know there is already a ton of buzz going around about it, but what
appear to be some logical inconsistencies continue to weigh heavily on my
mind. I’d like to hear what anybody here
thinks about my thought. It has seemed
to almost catch people off guard to find out that Chick-Fil-A believes
homosexuality is a sin. How is this
surprising to people? I clearly
understand that some people keep their opinions quiet, and some others (like
Rick Perry) just go on out there and tell the whole world. However, if a restaurant chain, which is not
open on Sundays in view of Sabbath, comes out and says that they disagree with
homosexuality, this is anything but surprising, right? In fact, it is consistent with what the
Scriptures teach about homosexuality. I
certainly don’t agree with the idea that homosexuals should be shunned and
rejected, absolutely not! But I see no
problem with Chick-Fil-A standing upon the Scriptures, which they believe, and
saying that they disagree with homosexuality.
Furthermore, their charitable giving is their prerogative. If they give to Christian organizations, we
all expect that anyway. Am I the only
one slightly stunned at this news?
