Republican Mayor Outed After Paying Gay Sex Shop with City-Issued Credit Card

Proud husband and father of three, Southaven Mayor Greg Davis’ life has been turned upside down thanks to the $170,000 in allegedly fraudulent purchases he charged to his city-issued credit card during his tenure. The Mississippi town that once elected him to office is now forcing the disgraced mayor to pay back the embezzled funds.

Just what does a small town Mississippi mayor even spent that kind of cash on? Liquor, fine dining and gay sex toys, it turns out.

Receipts from embattled Southaven Mayor Greg Davis reveal that he had the city pay for wide-ranging expenses including thousands of dollars worth of liquor, expensive dinners at a local restaurant and a visit to an adult store catering to gay men while on a recruitment trip to Canada.

Having been outed by his receipts of all things, Davis flipped the GOP gay sex scandal playbook on its head by just coming out and admitting what everyone already was thinking – he’s gay.

“At this point in my life and in my career, while I have tried to maintain separation between my personal and public life, it is obvious that this can no longer remain the case,” Davis said Thursday afternoon at his Southaven home. “While I have performed my job as mayor, in my opinion, as a very conservative, progressive individual — and still continue to be a very conservative individual — I think that it is important that I discuss the struggles I have had over the last few years when I came to the realization that I am gay.

Props to Davis for not lying through his teeth like so many in his party do in similar circumstances. But do we really haaaave to welcome him with open arms into the gay community? We’re talking about an embezzler who stole from his hometown and ran on a “family values” campaign – i.e. down with the gays.

Here’s a better question though: If you’ve secretly struggled with your homosexuality for twenty years, why on earth would you run for political office as a Republican?
