14-Year-Old Bisexual Confronts Rick Perry Over Gays in Military (Video)

Rebecka Green confronts Rick Perry. Which one of these two appears more presidential?

DECORAH, Iowa — A 14-year-old openly bisexual girl collared Texas Gov. Rick Perry after his town hall here and challenged him to explain the reasoning behind his belief that gays should not serve openly in the military.

“I just want to know why you’re so opposed to gays serving openly in the military, why you want to deny them that freedom when they’re fighting and dying for your right to run for president,” Rebecka Green, a high school student from Decorah, asked the Texas governor.

“Here’s my issue. This is about my faith, and I happen to think, you know, there are a whole hosts of sins. Homosexuality being one of them, and I’m a sinner and so I’m not going to be the first one to throw a stone,” Perry said. “I don’t agree that openly gays should be serving in the military. ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ was working and my position is just like I told a guy yesterday, he said, ‘How would you feel if one of your children was gay?’ I said I’d feel the same way. I hate the sin, but I love the sinner, but having them openly serve in the military, I happen to think as a commander in chief of some 20,000 plus people in the military is not good public policy, and this president was forced by his base to change that policy and I don’t think it was good policy, and I don’t think people in the military thought it was good policy.”

After her confrontation with Perry at the Winnishiek Hotel, Green told reporters she disagrees with the governor’s position on the issue.

“I’m openly bisexual and I don’t want to be told that if I wanted to serve in the military that I couldn’t, and I just think that policy is completely ridiculous that he thinks that. I just don’t like it,” Green said. “Him or nobody should be able to tell somebody who they can or can’t love.”

“I don’t agree that openly gays should be serving in the military?” There is simply no comparison between the levels of intellect on display here by the would-be president and his 14-year-old opponent. Rebecka Green is poignant, well-spoken, compassionate. Rick Perry bumbles, trips over himself, and offers up cliché in lieu of actual defense.

If Perry himself is a sinner, then why should his sin have enabled him to join the Air Force? And if filming the most hated YouTube video in the history of the internet about his belief that gays in the armed forces are poisoning America isn’t considered “throwing stones,” what pray tell is?

Does anyone else ever feel like we’re asking the right-wingnuts the wrong questions? How about we ask, “What is it that makes homosexuality as a sin different from other sins to such an extent that you no longer extend the same rights to homosexuals as you do to other sinners?”

If it wasn’t so hard to get out of the military, I would say that everyone in the LGBT community (and our supports) should just get of the military and see how people feel then. You want us to die defending a country that won’t even let us marry? Ha. Just another reason I’d never join.

The most glorious thing about these bigots is that they’re destroying their own campaigns. We barely even have to bat an eye or lift a finger to dig for the kind of idiotic trash they spew in the media. The comfort in all this is that when and where it matters the most (the voting polls) is where we can hit these morons where it hurts. Repeal the DADT repeal…….really? I love how people like Mr. Perry make every effort to tell the public that should they be elected into office that would be one of their first moves. They’re so disconnected from the present day and progress in general that they’re essentially writing themselves out of the running by advertising how they’d like to put this country back into the dark ages. Michelle Bachman, “Saggy” Gallagher, Santorum, Perry. Today’s political clowns will soon be tomorrow’s historical punch lines. The funniest part is they don’t see the cliff they’re running towards while they’re on this “race”. When they fall I’m sure everyone of us here won’t hesitate to celebrate………immediately………… This guy has got about as much chance at the presidency as Michelle Bachman fessing up to knowing she’s married to a closeted homo. It’s not happening…….Let em talk. When they’re laughed out of the polls come voting time we’ll see how much more these morons have to say about anything………

If he becomes president, he will try to impose the ideas of his faith onto the entire nation. That’s basically what he’s saying here. Wasn’t there something in the constitution about protection of and from religion…. Something about the freedom to chose your religion, practice it or reject all religion… and wouldn’t his imposition of Christian law be against some sort of law and basic principle of living in America.
