And the video has been removed for “Shocking and Disgusting Content.”

I think it’s disgusting that Youtube deleted this video. I bet you there are tons of other videos of girls beating the hell out of other girls in the hood that they left up. I for one would have loved to see this woman serve it up to someone for disrespecting her like that. Take back your power, girl!

I have to agree artemismeow. As a trans woman I have actively campaigned and hassled youtube on occasion to have homophobic and transphobic content taken down. It is hypocritical in the extreme for people to harangue youtube because the shoe is on the other foot. Violence is violence and should be condemned as such. And you are also on the money when you say that this will be used by homophobic biggots to peddle their hate. Difficult as it is under such provocation violence is never the answer.

Thank god this video was taken down and shame on all of you for actually encouraging this monstrous behavior. It’s not like this woman was even physically threatened – she faced a single insult from who I assume is an absolute stranger, not even a slur, what is basically a junior high insult, and she physically beat a man for it. That isn’t impressive. That isn’t to be praised. That’s a disgusting display of violence. This woman should be placed right up there with the anti-gay people who kill and bully people in our community because her actions are no more justified. I can’t believe you people are actually crying that you want to see this video and that what she did is okay. Has our community come to this? Where we praise violence? Or is it just the sensationalists on UB thinking that way? Anyone who would resort to violence doesn’t deserve rights, gay or straight. If you disrespect the rights of others, you should be willing to sacrifice yours.

I was also looking forward to seeing that ignorant guy taken down a notch. Any chance the video is hosted on another web site you could link us to?

Also, the fighting people need to STFU now. That TransLady might have to put up wit that shit every day of her life, and maybe she just finally snapped, as we are all apt to do when we’re fucked with on a daily basis.

YOUBOOB has stated this when you try to view it, “This video has been removed as a violation of YouTube’s policy on shocking and disgusting content” Ok, whatever bullshit you want to push YouTube. That would have been the end of it but I really wanted to see some moron get their come uppance. So I went to YOUBOOB and searched for “Transgender beats up.” You know what ISN’T against YOUBOOBS policy on “shocking and disgusting content?” Videos of transgenders getting the shit kicked out of them. OMG.. don’t show a transgender beating up a “normal” guy, but definitely let every hate crime ever committed against transgenders or gays on video stay on YOUBOOB. WTF??? BIG ASS FAIL YOUBOOB! Get a clue!

While the specific taunt did not warrant a physical attack, the comment could be seen as a case of the use of Fighting Words (google it, I’m not bothering with links). He was assaulting her, she battered him. Both are responsible for their actions.

But…

… I do have to say that I can see where she was coming from. I’m not a fighter, I haven’t been in a physical altercation since 8th grade, and that was because I was being systematically harassed verbally and physically. One person did one stupid little thing to me one day, not even as bad or harmful as those who had come before, and I snapped. The fear and rage flooded my mind and I had had enough. People thought it was okay to pick on me because I was an easy mark, I was big, slow, peaceful, and queer. Nobody stopped the abuse, even when I brought it to the attention of several teachers and the principal and vice-principal. The culture supported it. I was told to just ignore the taunts, threats, and attacks. “Bullies are hurt people deep down inside.” And the day came when my compassion for my attackers was non-existent. My rage was such that I was able to lift the boy with one hand by his throat and repeatedly slam his head into the doorjamb while telling him (and the assembled 60 or so students) to never fuc& with me again. I had apparently knocked him unconscious, or at least dazed him because he fell limp from my hand. I picked up my books and went to class expecting to be called into the office and expelled, but that never happened. Both my attacker and I, his attacker, finished the school day and year without incident. From that day on until I raduated high school, nobody physically came after me, and only occasionally was anything said to me of a malicious nature. Bullies, at least the smart ones, pick on targets they think will put up the least amount of resistance.

I still feel guilty for that, and relieved. My victim and I made up the next year, apologising to each other for doing the wrong thing that turned out to be the right thing for me. I was passive, I was peaceful, I shied away, and the hateful actions against me only increased. I am not Gandhi or Dr. King. I am not superhuman. I reacted in fear and anger, and I won a respect for myself, and from my peers, however messed up that seems. Would I throw down like that woman did, now? No. I live a pretty peaceful life in a very liberal town as a transwoman. I no longer have the daily menacing threats slung at me. And I am not tis woman. I don’t have any clue what her life was or is like, what her threshholds are, what her stresses are or aren’t, and neither do any of you. So go stuff your suppositions and condemnations, particularly those who have never experienced chronic emotional and physical harassment, and cannot then speak to what that does to the mind. Nobody in this incident was thinking clearly, and both will feel the pain of thir actions’ consequences. But maybe some bullies will see this in the news and think twice about trying to provoke a reaction out of a trans person in the future. Maybe they will only be incensed to more violence. Maybe transpeople will feel emboldened to defend ourselves in better ways by this unfortunate example. I carry my feet and my mind and my voice to diffuse dangerous situations; I also carry a *really* big knife, just in case those three aren’t enough to keep me out of danger.

I wanted to make a comment on this, on a very sensitive scenario that played out here, although I am indeed against violence, we don’t live in an idealistic world. If walking the streets and I called a a random hunky black man a n******** (you know what it is) I wouldn’t be surprises if I got a black eye and mild concussion. The real problem here is how harmful: hate, pain and anguish can build-up to behaviors that even though reflects poorly on this Transgender person; it’s caused by abuse, frustration and trying to hold her grown as a human-being that does not permit unprovoked degradation.

Disregarding the men’s personal history and the limitations of this video. As is racism, Transphobia has no place in society, but it’s shredded in misconceptions because the veil that’s it’s largely conspicuous & self-selecting, this man may/may not not have learned anything from getting his butt kicked but he knows at least that not every transgender person would circumvent his dehumanizing ways.
