What is love?
To be honest, some of the responses to “What is love?” in this mini documentary by California State University Long Beach students freak us the heck out.
“Love is never letting someone leave your life?” “Love is knowing you would do anything for someone?”
Eh. Sounds like someone’s been watching too much Lifetime to me. But I guess that’s the point here. The definition of love changes from person to person, or hell, even from relationship to relationship in the same person’s life. This doc captures that feeling quite nicely.
Comparing marriage equality to the age old Tamagotchi versus Giga Pet debate (that nobody has actually been debating since 1992. And even then…) is another one of those moments that steers the credibility of the entire project way off the road, but again: student documentary homework.
The real treat here is seeing the gamut of possible couples combinations in this world. The tatted up ladies in our picture above are my favorites for sure, but each new couple made me crack a bit of a smile.
What is love? Who knows. But if two people who make each other happy, and bring out the best in one another find each other in this crazy world and want to spend their lives together, why should anybody have a problem with that?
