Chris Wallace Calls AIDS a Homosexual Disease During Ron Paul Interview

Chris Wallace, his foot and his mouth interview Ron Paul.

Newsman Chris Wallace made our ears perk up so hard that they threatened to be be mistaken for ear boners in an interview with Ron Paul on Fox News Sunday.

While pressing Paul on the many racist, homophobic and generally distasteful newsletters and books published under Paul’s name that he denies having written, Wallace let slip that AIDS is a homosexual disease.

“Do you think someone with AIDS should not be entitled to health insurance as opposed to someone who has a heterosexually transmitted disease?”

It all goes down at the 4:12 marker.

Sigh…

This is Fox News we’re talking about here, so we shouldn’t be surprised. But still…Seriously?

No his answer was not perfect. The habits part is rather troubling, it implies that people that have aids are risk takers. How about someone that held on to their virginity til they were 30, and the first person they were with resulted in them getting aids. What about those that are raped. Or those that are born with it. Or those that have been faithful to a partner that has not been faithful. No I am sorry its a sloppy excuse, and this kind of ignorance is what helps spread aids.

Exactly! I stayed a virgin until I was 24. I was infected with HIV by my first boyfriend within 4 months of being sexually active. We were in a monogamous relationship, but he unfortunately was unaware of his status. I understand we could have been more responsible… we could have been tested and known our status… I could have insisted on a condom until we knew each others status. I was naive. I accept responsibility for my actions and realize I now have to pay the consequence. However, me contracted HIV has nothing to do with my habits nor am I a risky person.

Statistically speaking, specific cases are irrelevant. There is high correlation between risky behavior (like drug using with needle sharing or many sexual partners without condoms) and AIDS infection, in spite of regrettable exceptions to this trend. This is not bias – this is just a fact. Therefore, Mr Paul’s remarks were correct.

That story is a bit out of context, He didn’t say it they way they are trying to make it sound. I watched the interview on Sun. and I don’t think he was saying it was only a homosexual disease. He was trying to compare it to what most people would consider a normal heterosexual disease, like gonorrhea. I

Obviously HIV/AIDS afflicts the gay community, but its more devastating damage is being experienced by millions of men, women and children of Africa. I have to disagree with both the assertion that HIV is not a problem for heterosexuals (though statistically less of a problem) and that society has no responsibility to ensure the health and well being of citizenry.
