“Transgender women can’t use tampons! Oh SNAP! That’ll teach you confused poseurs. Real women BLEED once a month, be-yotch!”

Tampon manufacturer Libra perhaps didn’t get the memo that post-menopausal, prepubescent and yes, transgender women also consider themselves “girls.” Which is to say nothing of the countless women in the world who have undergone various reproductive surgeries or traumas that may have left them without need for a Libra tampon each month.

Look, this commercial is hardly a guns-blazing war on trans women, so let’s please avoid condemning and threatening the creators here. But with that said, why? Why go to the trouble of putting this commercial together? Why make “real women have periods” your unsaid, but quite flagrant marketing slogan?

Exactly who does this endear toward your company? Women who have felt uncomfortable sharing a public bathroom with women from other walks of life? Is the bigoted demographic truly that sizeable or lucrative that it’s worth offending those of us in the world who have LGBT loved ones in our lives?

If I were to guess, I would say that this commercial was pitched and put together by an advertising agency helmed by straight, white men. The goal was something “edgy,” I’m sure. Well, in that respect they have succeeded. But they also produced an ugly little blight on this brand and heated debate.

No no commercial. It’s real women HATE periods and find nothing enjoyable about them at all. In fact if everyone including cisgender men could experience them, they’d find that they hate it too. Even if it weren’t so politically incorrect I’d still find it offensive – trying to make periods seem like a good thing. What a horrible marketing scheme. Almost as bad as Dr. Pepper’ “DR PEPPER 10 IS FOR MANLY MEN! WOMEN ARE PUSSIES!” commercial.

It is amazing how easily manipulated you females are. The company (Dr.Pepper) found a smart way to sell products to all you always offended about something females. You got offended by the add and you bought the drink thus making the add effective. Some psychopathic feminists even made youtube clips with them drinking Dr. Pepper full of righteous indignation. I am sure the person who made that add got several promotions:-)

I’ve known women who never had periods.. either because of menopause.. even had a friend who suffered from a reproductive system disorder and never had a period.. guess there’s NO way they could EVER be real women..and honestly..I’ve NEVER met a woman who ever had ANYTHING good to say about her period .. “Hey.. it’s that time of the month.. wait.. wait for it.. yup..I’m still a woman.. THANK GOD”

eh….i hate having my period & my mom just had surgery to stop her’s bc she wouldnt stop bleeding she would be on her period for a looooong time…

not everyone that has a period can reproduce. i have a regular cycle but am still barren as the damned dessert. and small inconvenience is hardly what many women would call it. what with the pms and pmdd that some women get along with the blood and pain. it really can be horrible. and besides, why is reproduction supposed to be such a high goal to attain, some folks couldn’t care less about having kids.

I used to have to miss almost a week of every month of school because of the nasty effects of my monthly cycle. I’ve sought out a permanent way to stop possible reproduction since I was 15 because I don’t want to be responsible for passing on genes that could potentially cause the mental, emotional, and physical issues I have dealt with since I was very young. Not to mention the inability to stop medication in the case of pregnancy.I am one of many who do not appreciate this reminder of my possible ability to “give the gift of life.”

I think this commercial is harmful because it does more than imply that the taller blond is being combative against the girl stating she is a “real woman” by brandishing her tampons about. It doesn’t matter if she is a cross-dresser or transgender, it’s stereotyping either or by saying that they are competitive against cissgender females, which isn’t always true. And having your period doesn’t make you a woman, I can testify to that!

Unless what they’re saying is hey, you can’t use this awesome tampon and I can, haha. Which, in that case, is kind of silly.

I was born a woman, I am a woman, and I plan to stay a woman. However, I have never considered myself a woman just because I have a period. Periods suck, they are not fun, feminine, or beautiful, it would be pretty cool if I didn’t have one. All that said, I have never seen or heard of this Libra brand. Their marketing isn’t sound either. Too weird and out of touch. Also, I have yet to see a drag queen in the ladies room, and if I did, I’m sure I wouldn’t be competing with them, it’s a public restroom, ew!

I think what the company was trying to go for was that the current tampon commercials all act like a woman’s period is disgusting and needs to be hidden…that we’re all in need of a reality check about the fact that it shouldn’t be a hidden thing. However, they obviously went about it in the wrong way.

What’s the deal? I mean there’s some sarcasm in my latest one but I didn’t even drop the f-bomb or anything close. Having to use tampons really iosn’t anything to smirk about. If anything, that really proved the trans woman point of “I’m the better lady.” Honestly, bleeding out a hole located between where you piss and shit is the least lady-like thing I’ve ever heard of.
And really, the commercial annoyed me on the basis of trying to convince me that my period is awesome. It’s like the “have a happy period,” slogan. Just…no.

I’m gonna give these people the benefit of the doubt. Tampon commercials are usually the most embarrasing most awkward things in the world, and I actually thought this one was kind of funny. If you watch their other commercial they even make fun of a stupid boyfriend buying tampons for his girlfriend. I feel like I get where they’re coming from and maybe they’ll make a better commercial to redeem themselves. I do think think they could have thought more about the commercial before they aired it but you have to admit… it’s really hard sometimes to win a fight with a drag queen.

Those of us who have gone through or are going through the change, did bleed at some point obviously! So I fail to see how that part is an issue. It did not say we have to still be bleeding til the day we die.

As for the Trans aspect, I think it was quite distasteful and rude of them. Thought they did it is a slightly cute manner, it still is a slam and that is not acceptable….ever
