Exodus International Leader Finally Admits Ex-Gay Therapy is Fraudulent

A wonderful admission. But i have to wonder what the following point was to be made, what “change” does indeed mean for them/ I wonder, bcause i fear that the “change” they are suggesting is the guilt and self-defamation that the APA and such all speak out firmly against.

Sadly, this is not the great admission you think it is. Having been through ex-gay “therapy” myself, the goal is seldom to change orientations- mostly it’s to repress and suppress your sexuality. 

This does however, show that it does not work as advertised. 

This is also the same guy who has commented that being gay is “for younger men” and that he didn’t feel he could be gay because of his “looks.” His views have always been skewed, and it was only a matter of time before he had to face the music. 

hmm. i wonder what his motives were for that? i mean, as moronic as his buisness is, to have kept it up for as long as he has he can’t be so stupid as to make a slip up. this is an intentional declaration. so what’s the point? what does he have to gain for this?

This admission came as part of Chambers’ participation in the Gay Christian Network’s annual conference which was held in Orlando last week (Exodus International’s back yard) and the lead-in is by Justin Lee the founder of the GCN organization.  It was a challenging ‘confrontation’ for many in that organization who have had bad experiences with Exodus and similar reparative therapy efforts but it was a wonderful opportunity to bridge some of the animosity between the accepting religious community and the often-combative reparative therapy community.

Obviously…it didn’t help him in the “Gay accent” department

Doesn’t this sound like something for which he should be prosecuted?  Never mind the lives that he has ruined and opportunities he has destroyed for the victims.  What he engaged in is fraud!

 That is exactly what it is. A guilt ridden, self defamation, self loathing life. Can I get a AMEN, praise jebous from way back in the cheap seat?!

Hello, I think this is a strategic confession in the face of better codes of ethics in psychotherapy practice across US and UK that have been shown to clearly prohibit the practices of ex-gay therapy, using as one, but only one of the many, breaches as making a false promise to a client regarding the outcome of therapy. They are now trying to say that rather than cure you of your gay-ness (internal experience of urges) they are curing you of your acting upon your gayness (spiritual weakness). This is why psychotherapy codes of ethics need to operate at a high level, that generalises the breach of ethics of any practice which is  prejudicial and pathologising on the grounds of gender and sexual diversity. Of course it’s easier in UK where you have an Equality Act which prohibits discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation. Yes, it’s called taking advantage of confused bisexuals and misled gays and lesbians. His biggest “successes” are most likely bisexuals who have been convinced by their religion and the monosexist society we live in that the non-conflict conflict they feel means it’s a sin instead of natural as well as people of non-straight orientations shoved into a perversion of asexuality. All in all, no surprise here, including how little people consider bisexuality in the formula when it comes to places like that.

This article is focusing on only a snippet of dialogue that was taken away from a 2.5 hr long discussion. I was at the event where this conversation occurred and it would be unwise to take these statements at face value as presented here.  Alan, in no way, admits that Exodus is fraudulent but more so an ongoing process.  He still clings to the idea that he does not label himself “gay” – a fact that took up a long portion of the discussion for him to explain.  Use this article as a stepping stone to further research his discussion with Justin Lee of the Gay Christian Network.

I simply want to know why the radical right hates, yes hates, anyone who isn’t white, straight & Christian…
