“Peace Out G-Scout” Response To Girl Scout Cookie Boycott

girl scout boycott, girl scout cookie boycott, transgender girlscout boycott, transgender girlscout cookie

"I'm working on my transphobic badge."

The internet has been set on fire with the girl scout YouTube video where a young girl asks people to boycott the purchase of cookies this year in protest of GSUSA’s inclusion of transgender boys in the organization. You might remember our story about Bobby Montoya, a young transgender girl who was initially rejected by GSUSA because he was born a boy.

The video, which became quite the internet sensation, has since been placed under new privacy settings on YouTube and is no longer visible to the general public. In case you missed it, a wholesome looking girl in her girl scout attire outlines the issues she takes with the inclusion of transgender girls in the organization and asks viewers to join her in boycotting the organization. It was difficult to listen to a young lady eschew such closed-minded ideas about who can and can’t be a part of a group that prides itself on building life skills and friendships for young people.

Clearly I was not the only one who took offense to this video. Comments on the video itself were disable but many people began commenting on the page of the channel host. Many of these comments were pretty nasty so I wasn’t surprised to find the video had been taken down this morning.

In my disappointment, I did discover that a number of girl scouts had put together video responses on YouTube. My favorite is the one below.

What do you think about the girl scout cookie boycott? I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll be picking up some extra thin mints and samoas this year.
