Indiana, South Carolina to Offer Equality License Plates

The Palmetto State shows some love

People living in Indiana and South Carolina will soon be able to show their support for equal rights by purchasing equality license plates. This is especially important because neither state offers domestic partnership or any sort of recognition of non-traditional unions. You can brush up on your state equality rights with this handy-dandy infographic.

This is a surprising move for South Carolina which will host it’s caucus election this Saturday. I doubt there will be many cars with these license plates in the parking lot of the local polling station.

Maryland was the first such state to offer equality license plates starting in 2008.

Proceed from the sales of these license plates go toward local LGBTQ equality groups.

I live in Indiana and in the city I live in you can still be fired from your job due to your sexual orientation. They just voted on it last year and it was denied. To have these plates is completely hypocritical. But then again, maybe if enough people have these plates the higher up people will finally get their heads out of their asses and finally allow it’s citizens to have their constitutional rights. And on that note of Constitutional rights, why don’t we tear that fucker up. I don’t think that this country has followed it since…. Have we ever really followed it?

I’ve never really been ashamed to admit to being a born and bread Hoosier from Southern Indiana. However I’ve never understood the ban on marriage for the LGBTQ community (other than IN being a pretty Republican dominated state. Perhaps its cause the areas I grew up in were fairly moderate). I’m definitely going to get one of these when I get back to the States (or convince my parents to get one)
