Man Marries Dead Girlfriend’s Corpse in Funeral/Wedding Combo Ceremony

I don’t see why this man should be attacked by UB, she wanted to get married but he wanted to keep to his studies and they decided a later date.
Then she died and to make up for it, he married her at her funeral. He felt guilt for making her wait then the accident happening.
This isn’t as messed up as you’re making it sound. I love UB, but bitter much?

well, honestly, i’m sure she wasn’t wanting to get married so she could snag the ring, which is all this farce of a guilt-trip gave her. argue about it all you like, this has nothing to do with the dead girl and everything to do with the idiot who didn’t want to marry her while she was alive. 

Though I consider LGBT rights a very important issue, and I know it’s world wide, but where did this “wedding” take place?  Culturally, this may have been a more acceptable act than within our own.  

I don’t know about Thailand, but I do know that in China, ghost weddings did occur in the past.It was a way to allow the woman a higher status in the after life as one of her husband’s family’s ancestors. It’s just a part of their religion, I feel it’s a bit harsh to ridicule something just because we aren’t familiar with it.

I see this as a symbolic act to honor the memory of the “vows” or promise to marry his girlfriend. He is honoring that promise symbolically in this act. yes, it is not legal but a memorial act to his dead girlfriend.

My uncle died of cancer two years back, and my aunt won’t remarry because, to her, they are still married.

Kinda harsh don’t you think? I mean they WANTED to get married but were finishing school first… which in my opinion is admirable. She died while engaged with the full intention of being married to that man in the future. She did make a choice, a choice to have a wedding and spend her life with that guy. She died before she had the ability to follow through with her decision to marry him. Strange as it is he loved her and I think that shows with his actions. Using this as an excuse to point out discrimination in marriage is kinda screwed up. This isn’t some normal instance, it doesn’t really happen… can’t the same argument be said about them as their marriage really isn’t legal despite the fact that SHE wanted it before she died? Seriously… this is sad… he lost the love of his life and you attack their union because he did this after she passed… he was faced with never marrying the love of his life and filling his promise and obligation to her or to marry her and then bury her and say goodbye. Strange to us but good for him. Shame on UB for that last comment calling it a sham and saying she never consented. Technically gay marriage is currently a sham… isn’t it? Don’t point fingers… there’s always more of your fingers pointing back at you than there are at them.

I am a Gay Rights Activist, my 13 year old daughter is as well, that being said I am not seeing how this is unfair. He will not benefit in any way legally from this marriage. Much like ceremonies between same sex couples that are symbolic of their union of eternal love. Whats the difference? Aside from the fact that when gay couples get “married” they are free to hold each other everyday, have meaningful conversations, share life’s joys and sorrows and tell each other that they love them any time they feel the need and that love be felt and heard. This man will never have that with the woman he loves. Those who say this is distasteful or even gross, think too much inside the box of normal. Love is undying even if our bodies do not hold that immortality and that is what this represents. On a humorous note, he is bond to get a lot of Goth babes out of this.

My thought is that it is disgusting. Not only for the fact that she is dead (which should be enough), but also they said that they had not set any kind of date. what if she didnt want to get married? this is ridiculous

Not that I’m against equal marriage rights (far far from it actually) but this took place in Thailand so I hardly think the US media and church groups are going to jump on this. Its a sort of weird news vignette more than anything else. I don’t think this has anything to do with US marriage equality more than a zoo putting on a wedding for a couple of Penguins (a la Parks and Rec.)

I think the people who are judging this man and calling him gross and accusing him of necrophilia need to really get it together. You people have no idea what their relationship was like or how well he knew her. To make the assertions that he is “forcing her into a sham marriage” or “she was too deceased to consent to” is just in very bad taste and jumping the gun. You don’t know what that woman felt for the man, and if i’m not mistaken SHE wanted to get married but he made her wait, then she died. YOU guys here at UB are tarnishing a man’s undying gesture for the love oh his life. To me that is more gross and disgusting. Also if you automatically assumed he is going to take her corpse to maui and consummate his love for her, then by all means go see a shrink… That was never mentioned or alluded to. I’m relatively new to this blog, but if this is the type of “news” they cover, than I think i just might not frequent it.

I don’t feel as if UB reported this story to make light of or disrespect the act that occurred. What is the point is how many news sources did you see this story reported… Outside of UB where did you see a news source offering condolences sympathy or congratulations in regards to this ceremony. But to contrast if two living consenting men, two living consenting women engage and marry in a ceremony in an area where it is not the norm, (lets be honest with ourselves), it would be the leading story on every news source in that area. We live in a world where an instance such as this is regarded by major media as a non factor, and an issue without regard. This man married an individual who he loved. But extenuating factors are that the bride was deceased, therein non-consenting, so we look at it with jaded eyes. Currently i am engaged to be married to an individual that i love. According to certain media sources there are extenuating factors such as the individual I will marry is of the same gender, my marriage and marriages like it will garner attention because of gender, and no one will pay mind to the cognitive ability of each individual involved. My heart goes out to this man who wanted nothing more then to be bound in a public union to someone he loved. My problem, and what as i see as the reason for this article is that there are countless others who want the same thing. The facts are Yingyuen is marrying a deceased woman, unable to give consent and without cognitive ability, and the world’s media is not outraged. But we live in a world, a society where, I, living in Arizona, must travel to states such as New York, Iowa, California, etc. to get married, only to then not have my union recognized where I reside is a complete and udder outrage!!! It should anger the LGBT community, not because this man committed some grave grievance, but because this situation, by being overlooked is viewed as greater, more logical, and easier to accept, then the love I have for a individual who is alive, capable of thought, agreeable to said union, oh and of the same gender as well.

This makes me wonder about the honeymoon.
