A Guide to the GOP Debates for the Hearing Impaired

While trolling Facebook today I caught the above photo on my pal Isaac’s page. While not necessarily captioned so, I think the image makes a perfect guide to the endless GOP presidential (and I use that term loosely) debates for the hearing impaired.

This pretty much says it all, don’t you agree?

FYI, calling the Deaf and Hard of Hearing people as “Hearing Impaired” is just as bad and as offensive as calling Blacks the “N” word. Please be respectful!

no, actually, people who are deaf and hard of hearing prefer not to be called “hearing impaired” in the same way that people who are Chinese prefer not to be called “chinamen” and people who are Japanese prefer not to be referred to as “japs”. There’s probably a history of offensive usage that people without disabilities or with different disabilities are unaware of, but in the interest of acceptance we can at the very least respect their wishes when it comes to what they would like to be called.

Well, it’s nice be educated and I will certainly keep that information for future reference, but please understand that “hearing impaired” doesn’t sound like an offensive thing to say and I’m sure the writer of this article didn’t mean for it to be. It certainly doesn’t sound anywhere NEAR the level of offensiveness that the “N” word has. It’s been used for years (As the political correct way) to describe people who have lost their ability to hear. It was how I was taught to nicely refer to people who cannot hear, but again, I will keep what you said in mind. By the way, if hearing impaired is not the PC term, what is?

yeah, the term “hearing impaired” is used officially by several advocacy and support groups, it’s also used by the U.S. government, the FCC, the FAA, the National Park Service and other government bodies. Not to say that the U.S. is always right, but, I hardly think this is a derogatory term. I call shenanigans on Anthony.

umm, are you speaking out of first hand knowledge or are you just making this up? because “hearing impaired” is the medical term for being either deaf or hard of hearing, if anything “DEAF” and “HARD OF HEARING” are the offensive terms. :

What’s even more funny is that would make every single movie company discriminatory bigots. Because subtitles for deaf people are called: “English for the hearing impaired”.
