H&M Unveils Totally Meh David Beckham Underwear Commercial

Megaretailer H&M today debuted their first commercial promoting the David Beckham Bodywear collection, and boy oh by is it a snoozer.

No spark, no sign of life, no bulge, and for the love of God – no moisturizer for that poor man’s face! Is this commercial meant to entice us to purchase these manpanties or are we being punished for not making it out to the Sounders game when the Galaxy was in town?

Straight up, this commercial blows. It’s not just us, right?

How do you toss David Beckham, underwear, video and H&M in a blender and end up with this uninspired drivel?

So, there you go! The secret is out, you’re a Sounders fan, that’s why you said this ad is meh. If anything, anything at all that I’d complain is the lack of the WHOLE look of those underwear from the back to the front! Guess most Americans are scared to look at a bulge, eh? But thank God there are those PRINT ADS showing the full front, or did you forget that? There’re enough showing of the product for us to know that this is an underwear ad. But then again, as I said before…perhaps Americans are scared to look at the bulge on tv. Now back you saying this ad is meh…it seems you are the MINORITY.

totally a horrible commercial. Beckham doesn’t look hot, and his manpanties aren’t even really that cute. they are just target panties, that have his name on the label.

As for the ad though, moisturizer? Yeah, can we say that’s um, too gay? I think they were trying to hit a masculine man vibe, not a screaming queen at the Clinique counter vibe. They have a lot of incentive to appeal to straight guys with this campaign (he is a sports role model after all, which is so not a gay thing… he wears jock straps for utility… they are our neglige).

Also, maybe people watch too much porn… but leaving something to the imagination is sexy and often sexier. This commercial just didn’t accomplish those goals

The only thing this commercial has going for itself is the song!!! Other than that it is completely lifeless as you stated, David Beckham looks like shit! I wouldn’t buy those undies if H&M paid me to buy them!

I’m not sure about that… there really wasn’t that clear a look at the underwear, in my opinion. What was shown was pretty generic and aside from the Beckham tag, could’ve been Fruit of the Loom for all I could tell… I need to know what makes these skivvies special! How are they different from regular old BVDs? This is valuable information!

I dunno…… Maybe it’s because I’m a chick….. but i think the ad was tastefully done…. I think it’s sexier to show “less”….. Let’s YOU decide other “dimensions” on his body. That said, I agree that his expression and lack of movement with his incredible body was…… meh.

Honestly, I feel this is a very classy ad. Yes, I think a great many people would love to look at his bulge, but I do like the kind of artsy way they filmed this.

That was totally counterproductive to all their brands, #1 it looked more like a documentary about his tattoos, #2 they had two different type treatments for his name one on the logo that looks like it’s just had stitching fall out on the underwear itself, then when seen big makes you go “what the hell? is that some glory hole inuendo??” oh yeah and underwear was somewhere in there, I guess. call me crazy, but dry skin, tats covering every body detail, and basically featureless bodies like beckhams aren’t my cup of tea.

If this is a Superbowl ad, they’re certainly not interested in pleasing the gay crowd. We’re all chest-thumping heteros here and all we want to see is a tasteful underpants ad! We don’t need no stinkin’ bulges! (grunt grunt)

Right? Yeah. The print ads show a lot more. The man has a fantastic body and, when you see it, a very cute & impish smile – the underpants are meh.

Incredible. They have Beck and this is the best they can come up with. Clearly it was an under-utilized asset. That ad certainly won’t make the boring undies fly off the shelf. Clearly this is targeted at the str8 guys they want to wear their underwear. Straight guys aren’t really looking for the bulge and sexual heat of Beckham. I’m just surprised they didn’t make him toss a soccer ball around or balance it on his nose.

I was with you on all the critiques until the “no moisturizer for the poor man’s face” comment. The man is not 24 anymore. There is nothing wrong (and I argue, it is sexy) for a man to wear his age well. In my opinion, it looked like even he was embarrassed by the camera panning and tilting everywhere except toward the underwear.

This add makes beckham look like a relic, it shows every wrinkle he has got and on top of that it doesn’t show the bread basket, i mean if he isn’t blessed for heaven sakes pad it for the damn commercial and make us want a pair of beckham undies.. If they were going for a Male 50′s style pin-up they failed drastically..
