Nicki Minaj and David Guetta Give Us Robot Realness With “Turn Me On”
Remember when that whole Y2K thing was going down around the turn of the century? Everyone had this idea that the future would be all robots and flying cars in some kind of post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi fantasy. As we begin our journey into 2012, that seems to be the vibe again.
David Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat really did it for me when it was released this past summer. It’s a fun record with some pretty choice tracks, two of which feature my favorite parody-friendly lady in bubblegum hip-hip: Nicki Minaj. The current single, “Turn Me On” delivers that android fierceness we’ve come to expect. While Nicki may be Auto-Tuned within an inch of her life, the song is still damn catchy.
I’m still trying to figure out exactly what is going on with this video. It’s David Guetta producing sexy robot people in a Ye Olde London Town while Nicki Minaj runs around in a Jack The Ripper-esque ensemble. Your guess is a good as mine. The song is also pretty much the same as many others you’ve been hearing lately. Modern Pop music may not be Rachmaninoff, but at least it’s consistent.
Does “Turn Me On” make you want to dance and fist-pump, or do you think Nicki should just stick to rapping? View below and judge for yourself. This one may be slightly NSFW.
