MD High School Distributes Ex-Gay Therapy Flyer to Students

Einstein High School in Rockville, MD is under attack today after the school permitted a flyer from an Ex-Gay Therapy group to be distributed to students.

The group responsible for the flyer is called PFOX, short for Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays. You probably don’t need reminding, but Ex-Gay Therapy has been universally debunked by every single major medical, psychological, and psychiatric organization in the country. Ex-Gay Therapy is a fraudulent, unscientific practice which has been proven to do more psychological harm than help to LGBT participants.

Montgomery Public School District is defending its decision to distribute the quack medicine flyer, saying in part, “The board of education policy allows materials and announcements from non-profit community organizations to be distributed at four designated times during the school year,” as long as those non-profits meet certain criteria.

No word on how exactly a “therapeutic” practice promoting self-hatred was able to meet the school’s criteria. Perhaps a rethinking of said criteria is in urgent order?

My little sister also brought this home- she goes to Blair High School in Marlyand. I saw it on the counter read it and asked, Whaaaat is this shit!? She said the school banned handing it out but the group sued and were given the right to hand it out..

Guys, the school was forced to distribute the flyers because MCPS lost a court case. Most of the teachers threw them away.

Well if they allowed this they should also pass out PFLAG and it gets better flyers or something similar, educational institutions should be about teaching all sides of the story.

Unfortunately. Although I despise PFOX and the sick ideas that make this group I have to admit – freedom of speech doesn’t not guarantee intelligence. They do have the right. Hopefully someone there is smart enough to realize what a crock of shit this is.

Anyone read that flyer.. I have to agree, those same sex attractions I had from about 13 and up are exactly the same as the feelings I had that drove me to “supersize” my fries at Mickey D’s..yup exact same thing.. Who are these people kidding and what school in it’s right mind (read management) would allow it’s students to be exposed to literature that promotes confusion and self loathing? yeah, feeling LGBT in High School is a bit confusing on itself,, scary, isolating etc but denying who you are inside can drive these kids to hurt themselves and worse. My buddy Forrest is right again.. stupid is as stupid does
