Mitt Romney Will Amend The Constitution To Ban Same-Sex Marriage

How am I a bigot? Let me count the ways

While we’re celebrating small victories in our hometown, danger still looms on the horizon. Why are the Republicans always trying to mess with the constitution?

Just because they have some asinine reasoning rooted in thinking a great deal of the population disagrees with, they think it’s okay to completely shake up the foundation of the political system they are trying govern? I’m pretty sure we’ve all taken issue with Mitt Romney before, and quelle surprise, he’s still a total jackhole.

Mitt Romney last week told Ralph Reed’s Faith and Freedom Coalition that he would “propose and promote” a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in the U.S., and attacked President Obama by jumping on the false Republican “war on religion” train.

“There’s been an assault on marriage,” Romney said in the Faith and Freedom teleconference. “I think he [Obama] is very aggressively trying to pave the path to same-sex marriage. I would unlike this president defend the Defense of Marriage Act. I would also propose and promote once again an amendment to the constitution to define marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman.”

I am officially sick and tired of religion being used as a political argument for writing oppression into the constitution. We’re all Americans, we all vote, we all pay taxes. Go ahead and think your out-dated thought, that’s fine. I don’t care what you do in the privacy of your own homes, but it’s another matter when I heave to deal with it in public. It’s not a war on religion, my friend; it’s a war on stupid.

I’m almost willing to bet money that we won’t be seeing any Mormon presidents in 2012, but on the (terrifying) off chance that we do, would a constitutional amendment defining marriage as man and woman ever fly? Are you even surprised anymore when you hear stuff like this from Romney? Please rant away.
