Republican Representative Walsh Warms Our Hearts In Debate Speech
State Representative Maureen Walsh
Washington State became the latest state to legalize gay marriage this week. It couldn’t have been done without the influence of businesses in the state. Corporate pressure was a huge factor in gaining enough republican votes to secure passage of the bill.
The other factor which influenced how legislators voted for the bill is conscience. In the video below State Representative Maureen Walsh opens up about her lesbian daughter and how she hopes to someday throw a huge wedding for her daughter and the woman she loves.
Truer words have never been spoken. I myself like to remind people that it is the job of our government to enact progressive legislation. Do you think a majority of people wanted to end slavery? Give women the right to vote?
It is easy to forget that this country’s less than sparkling record with human and civil rights. I would like to think that the presence of politicians like Representative Walsh guarantees a rational and compassionate way of dealing with issues that affect citizens.
