How They Say ‘I Love You’ In 25 Languages

Today seems like as good of a day as any to learn how to say those three words that everyone wants to hear no matter where you are in the world.

Whether you’re in Indonesia (Aku Sayang Enkow) or France (Je ‘taime), “I love you” is always a gift worth giving.

I’m curious to know why the Russian and Mongolian phrases are shown in their own alphabets, while the Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Arabic ones are only indicated by their Romanized pronunciation. Also, “Eskimo” is considered offensive, kind of like calling Native Americans “savages”; it should be “Inuit.”

Actually, Eskimo refers to any Native from the Tundra regions of North America, regardless of tribe affiliation. Many of the natives I know call themselves Eskimo before saying Athabaskan or whatever, it’s easier for Cheechako’s to understand. ;)

Also, nobody really says “Te amo” in Spanish-speaking countries. “Te quiero” is much more common.

Ai shiteru — or 愛してる — is a bit creepy to say O_o ; I wouldn’t recommend using it. The Japanese friends I have say it’s too strong. Like, it’s used if someone is one their death beds. Instead, use 大好き. Literally, it means ‘big like’ — but it can mean that you have something kinda’ like love or a crush, depending. o-o Just not ai shiteru XD
