Boxers Or (Court) Briefs? NYC Sports Bar Goes Toe To Toe In Court

Tight ends and wide receivers

Bob Fluet and Robert Hynds, owners of popular gay sports bar Boxers in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, are fighting opposition to open a second location in Hell’s Kitchen. The opposition is led by school administrator Irma Medina of Sacred Heart Of Jesus school which is right next door to the proposed location.

Fluet and Hynds have jumped through various hoops to get the location within proper code including moving the entrance to the space over 200 feet of the school entrance and changing hours of operation so that they do not coincide with the school’s hours of operation. Opponents of the project also have stated they are not in favor of more bars opening in the neighborhood.

OK – real talk, the block in question is already home to a number of bar establishments including 2 which are slated to open within the next 3 months which has led Mr. Fluet to suggest that people in the neighborhood simply aren’t comfortable with another gay establishment going into the neighborhood, particularly one with men working in various states of undress. For those of you keeping score at home, Hell’s Kitchen is one of the largest gayborhoods in the entire country. Trust me, I opened Grindr when I was staying in Hell’s Kitchen on a recent trip. It’s like a gay zombie apocalypse.

What do you guys think? Is it so wrong to want to eat tacos and look at hot boys in their underwear while watching football?
