Governor Christie Thinks WrestleMania is More Important for NJ than Marriage Equality

Chris Christie and the case of bizarre priorities.

Washington State Governor Christine Gregoire became synonymous with WA’s victory in making same-sex marriage the law in recent weeks not only because she championed it, but because she demanded her legislature provide her with a bill to sign.

The same cannot be said of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has repeatedly vowed to veto any bill legalizing marriage equality in his state. So how did Gov. Christie spend his time during yesterday’s historic vote to legalize same-sex marriage?

On Thursday, Mr. Christie declared the Legislature’s action merely “an exercise in theater.”

“I’ve given them an alternative,” said Mr. Christie, who spent the day holding a news conference to announce that WrestleMania was coming to MetLife Stadium in 2013 and appearing at a fund-raiser for a Republican running for the United States Senate. “Put it on the ballot and let the people decide.”

WrestleMania, y’all. WrestleMania in 2013, even.

Could there possibly be a more flagrant example of what is wrong with the Republican party than this?
