"My spidey sense is tingling!"

Yesterday I suggested that the closeted Republican sheriff who threatened to deport his illegal immigrant ex-boyfriend provided a sort of critical mass insight into how deeply flawed the GOP’s stance on immigration, LGBT rights, earmarks have become.

Today some intrepid satirist has seized upon the scandal to highlight this point far better than I ever could have hoped.

The ad is very funny. But your Intro, Kevin! You should actually READ the news before you comment on it. According to the ex-boyfriend, a Mexican national, Sheriff Babeu was not threatening to “out” him but to arrange for his deportation if he didn’t agree to hush up regarding the past relationship. When an Arizona reporter broke the story, the sheriff himself was forced to come out of the closet. It’s a story about the abuse of power and hypocrisy, due to the sheriff’s hawkish stance on illegal immigration.

A further note from a gay republican living in the affected county. Jose was NOT an illegal alien, and is here legally. Secondly, Sheriff Babeu NEVER directly. Or indirectly threatened to deport him. The sheriff knows his boundaries and knows he does not have the power to deport Jose.
Get the facts guys, be fore I get really pissy! This story only has legs since all other legitimate news agencies in Arizona refused the story. The New Times is not credible.

By “not credible” do you mean liberal? I don’t have a lot of experience with Arizona, but what I do have it wouldn’t surprise me if these credible news sources are right leaning and therefore would never publish an article about this.

I could be completely wrong though. I do feel sorry for you though. I really do want to ask you a question. How can you, as a gay person, knowingly back and support a group that is so blatantly anti-gay? I know not all republicans are, but the national organization, as a whole, is, and every single Republican presidential candidate wants to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and try to ban same-sex marriage through the entire United States. Do you feel at all guilty about supporting these people and such a group?

It may seem odd that I back a group that is so blatantly anti-gay as you put it, but my reasons go far beyond my sexuality. I want my country to thrive and survive far into the future. The democrats, especially Obama, would like to return to the 1940′s era Russia where we become a collective. I have always been a fiscal conservative, not a social conservative. There is a big difference and NO political party caters to my brand.
I was once married and became a father of three wonderful children. It is my children that make me desire a strong country for them to raise their children in. We will have equality one day, hopefully in the near future, but without a strong national defense and thriving economy, what damn good will it be? As for our right leaning “credible” news sources, the Arizona Republic is as far left as it gets! He could have chosen may sources outside arizona, chose that rag to liable a great man.
