Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation Discrimination Now Illegal In Omaha
The Omaha City Council approved an ordinance today by a vote of 4-3 which makes the discrimination of individuals based on gender identity and sexual orientation illegal. Kinda funny to write this feel good story since it makes COMPLETE AND TOTAL SENSE to have this kind of legislation in place.
The kicker with this story is that Nebraska assistant coach Ron Brown spoke out against the ordinance and even called a meeting of his conservative group Freedman Nebraska, urging them to defeat the ordinance any way possible. Brown encouraged the defeat of the ordinance in order to “protect religious liberty in the workplace.”. You’ll have to forgive us if we don’t seem shocked, this is not the first college football homophobia story we have covered this year.
Shame on you Coach Brown. It is entirely likely that some of the very players you coach every Saturday are members of the LGBTQ community and your personal convictions about preserving religious liberties are actually a spin to cover up your bigotry. Coach Brown, you should consider sticking to the pigskin and keep your pig-headed politics to yourself.
If you would like to share your thoughts with Coach Brown’s boss, the athletic director of Nebraska you can do so here: [email protected]
