16-Year-Old Girl Kills Herself After Judge Forces Her to Marry Her Rapist

Before anyone starts screaming, I AM NOT JUSTIFYING THIS. I see it as horrible, and absolutely terrifying. I cannot imagine a world where this allowable but law. BUT…This happened in another country, with an entirely different culture. The sexual purity of women is more important than almost anything else in some parts of the world, and at the same time, those same women whose purity is being “protected” are usually seen as nothing more than property. It is a culture from a different time,  one that evolved in a fully and fundamentally different world. It so radically different from life, morals, and views as far as what is acceptable in Western and Westernized societies that we look at it and say, “That guy should have lost his job! He should die for this!” Well, in our eyes and in our minds, he should. 

In my mind, the judge is as much a monster as the rapist, and in a way he’s a murder on top of it all. I just wish that women in other countries were allowed to learn more about the rest of the world, or maybe to be given the choice of living as an “impure” or “unclean” person. Her life would probably have been very harsh and difficult, but she would have been able to escape a life as a sex slave or a toy and punching bag to some sicko. 

How does that even punish the man or protect the honor of the woman? This isn’t old laws and property etc but common sense. I do know a lot about cultures and beliefs but even knowing the “reasoning” behind it, it still blows my mind. Maybe because I was always allowed to think for myself and understand human rights that I just can’t believe some of the “reasoning” that gies behind terrorizing victims, or anyone for that matter. Was that ruling seriously considered a punishment to the man and an honor to the woman?! So many cultures punish women cruelly for anything from possible sexual enjoyment (female castration before puberty) to being brutalized as not protecting their own honor. A woman’s honor is not for a man to define. We define ourselves and are fully capable of keeping high values and morals as much as a man. And maybe that’s what these men fear. Because under their facade of high moral fiber, they’re a lot less clean than they look.
And maybe we let them push us down and oppress us– because we couldn’t hunt when we were with child. But make no mistake that we could take down a bear that threatened our cave and children and make blankets out of it before the man came home. Better late than never, there is hope for gender equality and cultural preservation in every corner of the globe.

She did the right thing. 

Well, in this young lady’s case it obviously wasn’t…but I can imagine there might be some young lady that might actually get it in her head to (I cannot believe I’m gonna say this) “ask for it” as a way to catch herself a husband??  I mean, if the judge was going to force him to marry me, I might find some horny guy and get him into bed and then cry rape if I was in a country where women have no standing…if I thought the guy wasn’t going to beat me constantly or molest our children.
