Katy Perry Hawks the Military-Industrial Complex in Confusing ‘Part of Me’ Video

These are the parts of Katy that you're never gonna ever take away from her.

When Katy Perry caught her man cheating, she did what anyone would do.

She chopped her hair off in a gas station bathroom, taped her breasts down (???), and joined the 27th eye makeup infantry division of the United States Army, where she promptly organized and starred in the military’s Kenny Chesney cover band.

Or something. We think. Maybe?

What in Teenage Dream’s name is this video supposed to be about? And who on earth suggested Katy twirl beneath that American flag? And who allowed it to be captured on film.

The barista here at the cafe I’m working from weighs in. “What part is she talking about? Her patriotism? Her NRA membership? Did Russell Brand try to get her to give up her American citizenship?”

Sorry Katy. We love you girl, but we’re sticking with Tanner Patrick’s video for Part of Me this time around.

I’m guessing she kind of sees women in the military as good examples of independent women (perhaps one of the only kinds?) and wanted to portray that as a woman becoming independent?

I think that she is talking about everything that makes her free. American flagis a reigning sign of freedom over the world. She is taking back her individual and intrinsic right to be free from tyranny (aka a lying cheating partner). She is retaking back her life, and creating a transformation into a strong, whole hearted, American woman. I think the underlying message is beautiful. It sends a much better message than when Rihanna came out with “Love The Way You Lie” after being Chris Browns punching bag.

I liked this video! It showed the how tough women are and that women are great soldiers too. Although I despise about the “women are dykes because they are dumped by men”, and that war is still accepted by many nations as a solution.
