Zach Wahls breaks it down at the GLAAD Media Awards

‘People sometimes want to know, “Which one is the man?”. Which is kind of like walking into a Chinese restaurant and asking, “Which chopstick is the fork?”

It’s a whole different set of utensils, guys! They’re both women. It’s what lesbian means.’

-Quasi-professional activist/dreamboat/public speaker Zach Wahls describing what it’s like to have been raised by lesbian moms.

If you’ve ever seen Zach Wahls speak, which you have, then you know how damn charming this straight son of gay parents is. Wahls is quite literally one of the most valuable players on the LGBTQA team, and we continue to be impressed beyond belief with every single thing that comes out of this young man’s mouth.

YouTube named his Iowa speech to the House of Representatives it’s top political video of the year, beating out Obama, Rick Perry and well, everyone else on the planet.

Oh, and he’s not hard to look at either.

This young man is inspirational. I’m so proud to be able to point to him and say “That’s what I mean by ally.” He’s one of us, not just because he has two moms, but because he stands up for us all – and I think he’s got an awfully bright future. The days when taking this stance could kill a career are, I think, finally nearing an end. I love to think that Zach and those in his generation are our future.

He is a man with a calling and he is doing it well. He is right, parents are parents no matter what. Some are really good at it. Some people go through a lot together and they learn a great deal of how to be a family and what that means. So many people still don’t understand that a family is a self made unit conceived in love. Be it one parent taking care of children or same sex units of loving people or even opposite sex parents. Even those that adopt children or forster care. All these people form a unit. We all must remember that a family is also two people commited to each other in love and respect that join together to share their lives. To try and limit that love and restrict it or deny it, is wrong in any God’s eye or from any concept of love! If we hold these truths to be self evident that pursuit of happiness be included as a civil right to humanity then we are on the right good road, thank you Zach!
