Deadmau5 Disses Madonna’s Drug Remarks, Calls Her a “F***ing Idiot”

Madonna just dropped her twelfth studio album, MDNA, proving that not-so-subtle drug references apparently never go out of style. The “Girl Gone Wild” singer recently took the stage at the Ultra Music Festival to introduce powerhouse DJ Avicii, and her remarks have caused a stir with electro connoisseur Deadmau5.

“I have a few questions for you,” Madonna said, addressing the crowd before Avicii’s set. “How many people in this crowd have seen Molly? Are you ready to dance? Are you ready for the next DJ, motherf***ers?”

Molly is slang for MDMA, the key ingredient in Ecstasy. MDMA… MDNA… Get it? The crowd cheered in response, indicating that many of them probably have Molly on speed dial. I wonder how her daughter, 15-year-old Lourdes Leon would feel?

Deadmau5 took to Facebook and Tumblr to spew his feelings on the matter… and I mean SPEW. His face may be hidden, but his opinions are all out there.

I’ve been listening to MDNA all morning, and honestly, I’m not really sold. It’s a catchy dance album, and I’m excited to see Madonna in concert this fall, but I find these remarks disappointing.

It’s not that I agree or disagree with Madonna’s statements; I just think she is trying way too hard. Plus, it’s awkward to see a 54-year old mother of however many kids she has blindly advocating the use of some pretty serious drugs just to be shocking. It feels rather reductive, Madge.

How do you feel about Madonna’s love affair with Molly? Do you think her latest reinvention is club drug-loving candy raver, or is she simply doing it for the publicity buzz?

I think everybody is overreacting. You go to a DJ set show and chances are, a large portion of the crowd is on MDMA. I say this because I’ve been to many electronic festivals and not only have I seen many, MANY people on “molly” and also been on the end of people using it at said events. I don’t think it’s THAT outrageous given the venue, the new title of her album, and the crowd. Tongue-in-cheek? Ever heard of it?

I’m not advocating the use of the substances. I, myself, don’t partake in them anymore. But I think everybody going off the deep end over it is a bit much. These people paid money for their show and their drugs and if MADONNA, of all people, wants to make a rather blatant comment about it, so be it. Jeeez.

I’m not a big fan of his tunes, but I really respect Mau5 for being willing to take the stand here and call her out. I 100% agree with him. Its sending the wrong message, that its all about drugs, and its that message that has indeed been eroding the dance music community since I got into it a few years back. Then again, Madonna started her career at a time when MDMA was hugely popular (even more than it is now) so it would make sense that she still draws on that culture. I’m not saying that encouraging drug use is a good thing, but I don’t think it makes her an idiot. Watched about 1 hour of the live broadcast of Ultra Music Fest online and saw Madonna and Avicii. The camera would pan the audience and half the crowd were sucking on pacifiers. She was just pointing out the blatantly obvious. Go to an Electronica concert and then we will talk. Obviously Deadmua5 does know the electronica scene because they are posers. But more than that….who gives a shit what they think really? This is hardly worth writing about. And lastly, The Lady GaGa that you cling to in your generation told Anderson cooper on National TV how she smokes pot to get inspiration to write…..again, who gives a shit?

Madonna is an icon. Many people look up to her and have been her fans for as long as she’s been around.
I really feel that she’s trying to be the “It Girl” again and trying to market herself to the current generation. That being said, I think she’s better than that. That being her condoning the use of illegal substances.

So making a tongue-in-cheek reference to an audience largely receptive to the message is what really elicits our outrage these days? Madonna clearly was only stating something that would even be obvious to Helen Keller. Making a reference and advocating usage are two separate matters. Many musicians openly reference their drug usage in song and rap and have so for many years, which Madonna has done neither. Layoff the mean-spirited attacks. If Deadmau5 is really concerned about drugs, then there are plenty of areas he can focus his energy, starting with some of the very events he headlines.

Wow, I feel nerdy now. Despite having had relations with Molly in the past I associated her new album title as some sort of clever play off of Mitochondrial DNA (as in Madonna DNA), or even as a sort of abbreviation MaDoNnA. Though I suppose the drug connection does seem more logical.

Deadmau5 is true in what he is saying but there’s a fine line between what’s opinion and what’s plain rude. And Not that I’m defending Madonna but he should’ve had tact about it. Either way I like Madonna’s new music but to me it’s just trying very hard to be relevant and take back the pop throne. She has a dubstep undertone in almost all her new songs and that’s kind of annoying. I love the old madonna.
