Confidential NOM Files Unsealed, Reveal Vile Plan to Pit Blacks Against Gays

HRC has published confidential NOM documents detailing the sinister, race-baiting strategies behind the National Organization for Marriage’s fight against marriage equality.

The documents, unsealed yesterday during an ongoing investigation by the state of Maine into the illegal campaign finance practices of the group, reveal specific plans to pit blacks and gays against each other, and to craft anti-gay attitudes into a badge of Latino pride.

“The strategic goal of this project is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks—two key Democratic constituencies. Find, equip, energize and connect African American spokespeople for marriage, develop a media campaign around their objections to gay marriage as a civil right; provoke the gay marriage base into responding by denouncing these spokesmen and women as bigots…”

“The Latino vote in America is a key swing vote, and will be so even more so in the future, both because of demographic growth and inherent uncertainty: Will the process of assimilation to the dominant Anglo culture lead Hispanics to abandon traditional family values? We must interrupt this process of assimilation by making support for marriage a key badge of Latino identity – a symbol of resistance to inappropriate assimilation.”

The leak of these confidential documents could not have come at a worse time for NOM. The group has been made the butt of jokes after their boycott effort against Starbucks has resulted in less than 20,000 pledges, while a counter effort in support of the Seattle-based coffee chain and outspoken marriage equality supporter has attracted hundreds of thousands of pledges.

In December of last year, it was also revealed that NOM is funded almost entirely by only two wealthy donors, widely presumed to be both the Catholic and Mormon Churches.

Public backlash against NOM is present today across the web and social media, and with good reason.

I worry about this here in Maryland. Same-sex marriage will be on a referendum in our state in November and I’m sure NOM will be campaigning to take away what our state legislature legitimately passed. Also, Maryland has a sizeable African American population and a somewhat ugly history when it comes to race relations. For NOM to be actively making this debate race based could be devastating here. The message that we are all equal under the law is so much more important. Fortunately, the Maryland Same-Sex Marriage bill was written in a very pro-religious freedom kind of way. If people are educated about this, hopefully they won’t listen to NOM

My dear cousin had to leave Maryland because of this, she still hasnt came out to her parents. she safe I guess down here south Florida. Her old tenant after finding out shes gay threatened to tell her parents, and kicked her out. Shes good now, and her parents still don’t know. But never have I had such a burning hate for these people.

What I think we should do to hurt NOM is make sure these “churches” that support them start paying taxes. That will not only solve the financial issues of the country, but in the least it will make these religious fanatics shut their mouths once and for all.

This will hopefully prove to the public once and for all that these anti-gay groups are Hate Groups through and through, sowing discord and inspiring hate and oppression, exploiting all minorities to achieve their own bigoted aims. Sad, sickening, and totally unsurprising.

I don’t think this organization has any clue how much political fallout is coming their way. I give it by the end of the year before this organization is forced into having no choice but to dissolve and dismantle itself.

NOM’s fight to “protect” marriage is over. There can be no possible or humane way that anyone can morally or logically justify a belief that driving a wedge between two societies is God’s work, regardless of which political party or religion they belong to.

the thing that isn’t being mentioned in the document… NOM didn’t create the tension between the two communities… they found tension, and they exploited it and grew it. That is the sad truth that no one wants to admit, that both the gay community and the black community have a problem that needs to be overcome.

There are two parts to homophobia primarily, personal relatedness to homosexuality and sexism. The latter is key to homophobia intrinsic to the ‘macho’ identity present in culture, and strong in Black and latino cultures especially. So, really, while it is a racially patronizing strategy, it is a smart one because the friction it means to encourage does, in fact, already exist.

The ultimate end of homophibia is the end of sexism. When a woman can be respected and even feared for her power and capability while being overtly feminine, then an effeminate gay man can command as much respect or fear as any masculine man. the metric for women’s rights in a real way is the extent a man loses no cultural or masculine respect for being effeminate or being a sexually receptive homosexual.

I know many Catholics as disgusted by NOM, and I as a Mormon am also disgusted by NOM. Civil marriage is a secular issue, not a religious one.
