Years ago, coming out to mom and dad usually followed something of a script, with remarkably few parents driving the conversation off the track.

No money involved, but my mom always knew. I came out to my parents at the same time and my dad took it pretty hard; as did the rest of his family. But gotta love mom for always stickin’ by me!

that was the reaction my brother and my friends had…my dad actually called me out literally HOURS before i was going to tell him

My parents said, “We’ve known that since you were three,” and everything was cool. Then my mom died and my dad went back to church and the media environment became toxic and started re-brainwashing Republicans, so that now I don’t get that unconditional love anymore.

Some of my family knows, some do not. I’m not in a situation where I can comfortably tell everyone. However, my best friend’s remark was:

“I knew that. I was just waiting for YOU to get with the program.”

My dad just sorted and
said that he had known since i was 14. My Mom still thinks I said Thespian
not lesbian. The really sad part about it is that I was scared to tell my
Dad because he was Air Force and I thought my Mom was a little more open minded
than she turned out to be.

My parents actually DID have a bet going! Dad lost because he was sure my brother was gay (he isn’t) and my mom was sure it would be one of us other three who was gay (my sister, who also isn’t). It turned out to be me, so mom won, but they were both surprised. They took it well though.

No money exchanged hands, but my uncle did tell my aunt that he told her so (and to this day I still don’t know if he meant told her so that I was gay, or told her so that I was going to come out to them by picking them up from the airport with my boyfriend).
