Haters Gonna Hate: We Hit the Motherlode!

Hey all you amazing Unicorns! Welcome to another edition of Haters Gonna Hate, the column where we throw formality out the window as we look the weeks biggest haters.

This week was a big one. A certain nefarious organization’s secret, diabolical plans were leaked this week, and it kind of blew up. But there were other haters too (aren’t there always?), so let’s get to it!

So this Sir Roger Gale, a member of the British Parliament, apparently thinks that making gay marriage legal–and thus, having to update legal documents to reflect the change–would lead to rewriting Shakespeare or The Bible. Uh-huh. So, laws are changing and we update legal documents to reflect that, but apparently this change will just undo everything and end literature.

What about that time that women were basically considered property in our country and couldn’t vote, own land, etc. We updated the laws to reflect their newly-acquired rights back in the day, right? Why is that any different? It just kind of seems weird that a lawmaker would express concern about updating laws as society changes. Nice forward-thinking, jerk.

Rick Santorum, (un)officially the king of saying really dumb things that make no sense, thinks that Dan Savage has “serious issues.” He says that these “issues” stem from “the things that he does and the things that he says,” which is obviously code for “he defined my last name and I don’t like it, so boo.”

This one’s almost written for me. Dan Savage nailed it:

Rick Santorum thinks that women who have been raped should be compelled—by force of law—to carry the babies of their rapists to term, he thinks birth control should be illegal, he wants to prosecute pornographers, etc., etc., basically the guy wants to be president so that he can micromanage the sex lives of all Americans…and I’m the one with issues?

Yeah. Pot calling the kettle black when the kettle isn’t really black and the pot is just insane. That about does it.

And finally, our D-Bag of the Week Award goes to… you guessed it: Maggie Gallagher of NOM!

Like I said earlier, this blew up. These files reveal so much gross crap that it upsets me to even think that people would legitimately have these ideas. From plots to pit black people against gay-marriage advocates to wanting to make “traditional marriage” a part of Latino values, it’s just sick.

After the original story went public, Waking Up Now accused the vile Maggie Gallagher, the “queen of NOM” of having blood on her hands. And she definitely does. As the story says, she’s seeking to drive a wedge not only between two social groups, but two social groups that overlap. Thus, she’s actively seeking to destroy families. She’s a b-word, and I don’t mean bunny.

And for that reason, Maggie Gallagher is our D-Bag of the Week! I wouldn’t be surprised if she earned the award next week, because this NOM leak is just getting started.
