Catholic Lawsuit Memos Reveal Priest Bragged About Raping 3 Boys in One Week
Also Monday, two jurors were replaced by alternates, but a gag order prevents lawyer from discussing the reasons for the move.
Monsignor William Lynn is on trial for child endangerment and conspiracy. Lynn, 61, is the first Roman Catholic church official in the U.S. charged for his handling of priest-abuse complaints. Prosecutors say he helped the church bury them in secret files, far from the prying eyes of investigators, civil attorneys and concerned Catholics.
In the day’s most startling testimony, a detective read internal church memos about a priest who allegedly “joked about how hard it was to have sex with three boys in one week.” His accuser also stated that the priest had a “rotation process” of boys spending time sleeping with him.
If I were a betting man, or if there were any sort of justice or fairness involved in these ongoing Catholic rape cases involving literally thousands and thousands of victims who were sexually abused by pedophile priests, I would say that the current trial in Philadelphia is going to be the big one that blows the church coffers wide open.
The internal memos, the actual proof that bishops and Vatican officials covered up the abuses and shuffled rapist priests around to go abuse other victims, and the heartbreaking backstory involving a Philadelphia detective’s son committing suicide after revealing he was raped by his Catholic high school principal – all of these dominoes are falling in a way previously unseen in the countless trials brought in other cities and countries over the past two decades.
Testimony revealing that priests sarcastically bragged about what a burden it was having to rape all of those underage, illegal boys week in and week out has up until this trial been largely absent up until this point. This is a whole new ballgame.
Stay tuned.
Do you think the Philadelphia Catholic sex abuse trial will result in the largest ever judgment against the Catholic Church?
