Georgia GOP Rep. Floats Bill Forcing Women to Carry Aborted Fetuses to Term

Having already gone on a pretty lengthy rant about the ridiculous inconsistencies in men’s (Free pizza!) and women’s (You’re fired!) reproductive health earlier today, I will just let this little nightmare speak for itself.

The Georgia legislature is currently debating a bill that would ban abortions after twenty weeks. The written legislation, however, applies not only to viable fetuses but also to but also ones that are already dead. This means that women would have to carry around their dead babies until their bodies chose to expel them naturally, putting their health at an incredibly high risk – both physically and mentally.

Why does Representative England think this is acceptable? Well, apparently because it could save a few chickens.  ”Life gives us many experiences…I’ve had the experience of delivering calves, dead and alive. Delivering pigs, dead or alive. It breaks our hearts to see those animals not make it,” ThinkProgress quoted him as saying. He then went on to share some words from a young man who owned fighting chickens, saying “He said, ‘Mr. Terry, I want to tell you something. You tell those folks down there when they quit killing babies, they can have every chicken I’ve got’,” England quoted.”

In addition to sounding absolutely crazy and dangerous, Rep. England’s bill is just downright mean, don’t you think? It’s bad enough that we in this country enable groups comprised entirely of white, middle-aged men to create laws governing a diverse swatch of women’s health and rights.

But it’s quite another thing entirely to elect men who clearly hate women to perform the task of representing them.

Forcing women to carry dead fetuses around inside of them for months, y’all. This is what Georgia lawmakers think is in their constituents’ best interest.
