Those I’ll Kill My Gay Kid #tomyunbornchild Tweets Get the Video Treatment

It was hard to surf the interwebs last week without stumbling upon either the series of homophobic tweets hashtagged #tomyunbornchild from people discussing how they would kill their future children if they grew up to be gay, or the plethora of gay blogs who picked up the story.

All of those horrible little 140 character murder threats get the video treatment here.

It’s easy to dehumanize hate speech online because we’ve gotten so used to seeing it. We tell ourselves that it’s the product of trolls, of random, anonymous strangers.

Except they’re not. They’re real people. Many of them will be parents. And some of their children will be gay.

But what can we DO about it? I don’t think there are any easy answers.

Whenever you believe life begins, I hope we can all agree: life is essential, and rare, and precious. We can’t stop anyone from having kids. But we can resolve to stop this toxic cycle. We can wish better for our own children. And we can support the kids who weren’t so lucky.

Yikes.

This got me really upset, props to the actors though, they conveyed the hatred really well – on the other hand though, go look at the twitter feeds of the people mentioned in the video; they’re hardly what you’d call “model citizens” most of them appear to be drug-taking, alcoholic degenerates that can’t spell correctly.

Hatred of the unfounded sort like this, tends to be perpetrated by the stupid people that were raised that way, and who don’t know any better; I hope that one day they do have a child that is gay, they will soon get over their bigoted ways, or raise a child that will leave the family and become an incredible force for good in our world, or they will see their hatred to term and get their just desserts.
