In another clear example of why the world is going to end in 2012, multimillionaire and Rick Santorum fan boy Foster Freiss told Fox News’ Lou Dobbs he hopes President Barack Obama’s “teleprompters are bulletproof”. Freiss, a retired hedge fund manager, donated roughly 1.7 million dollars to Rick Santorum’s campaign in the past few months.

The full quote actually reads as follows:

There are a lot of things that haven’t been hammered at because Rick and Mitt have been going at each other. Now that they have trained their barrels on President Obama, I hope his teleprompters are bullet-proof.

Freiss generated headlines last month after suggesting women keep an aspirin between their legs as a form of contraceptive. You can enjoy that clip below.

With Santorum suspending his campaign, Freiss has said he would shift his support and affinity for one-liners to Mitt Romney’s campaign. The same day as his teleprompter comment, Freiss told ABC that with Santorum out of the race he hopes to “fade back into obscurity”. So do we Mr. Freiss, preferably as quickly and quietly as possible.

While I understand why people are spinning this into an issue, with the context of his statement prior, it’s obvious what he actually meant. I personally think making this more than what it is, is a bit silly. References like this have been made in politics for YEARS upon years and nothing is ever said…until it’s said about our black president.
I think it’s time people stop being so sensitive because the man is black, because honestly that’s what this boils down to. If Obama were white and someone said this, this would hardly register on anyone’s radar (because as I said, these comments are commonplace in politics) because people realize the comment is what it is.

I don’t think its a case of being sensitive of President Obama being black. Race plays no issue right now. Obama is getting attack from all sides. Even when his presidency was in it infancy people where questioning every little thing he did. Did he “really” swear in. Where is is birth certificate. The man killed a fly and everyone was up in arms about the fly’s rights. Personally I believe if Obama would of made a similar comment the media would have an even bigger backlash. I wish the media would of been on a bigger tirade when Rush Limbough went on and on about women on birth control are whores and there mother’s should be ashamed of themselves. This type of talk is apart of the political game but so is taking what people say and spitting right back at them. Newt lost his campaign when is wife said she had a hard time raise all there children by herself.. *cough* 5 nannies *cough* Or my favorite his look or marriage…. **2 divorces**

Josh, insinuating that someone should be shot is never appropriate, regardless of the skin color of the person being shot at. I seriously doubt this sort of behavior is what “What Would Jesus Do” was all about. Reading over the comment I don’t see anywhere that any reference was made regarding color. In fact until you pointed it out it never crossed my mind. I don’t expect everyone to agree with my way of thinking but I strongly advocate people not being the target of gunfire.

While I agree with Josh (below) that I don’t think this guy literally meant that people will be firing bullets at Obama (or that he was calling people to do so), it is a troubling metaphor, and I think it’s unfair to ask a person to stop being so damned sensitive about all the death threats he’s received simply because he’s a black man in a position of power. How many death threats did G.W. receive? How many during his campaigns?!
