Judge Judy: I don't get it, Larry!

This clip of Judge Judy herself, Judith Sheindlin explaining to Larry King how she just can’t understand why anyone would devote time, energy, and legislative power to preventing same-sex couples from marrying may be almost four years old, but that certainly hasn’t stopped more than a dozen people from submitting to the UB batphone tip line today.

So here I am, giving the people what they want.

JJ is rational, logical, and frames her argument from a legal perspective. There’s no doubt that this is an incredibly intelligent person explaining why a ban on gay marriage makes no sense.

So listen up, haters! Court is now in session!

Hooray, for JJ. Of course, she shows some naive optimism in stating that no one would tolerate miscegenation today when a poll from just last year showed that 46 percent of registered Republicans in Mississippi would ban interracial marriage if they could. The depths of some people’s bigotry is truly unfathomable, and they are more numerous than we care to admit…but she is right: The old guard must die off and we will see equality. Eventually…

That’s why I lover her. She has gay couples on her show all the time and she’s been nothing but fair. Doesn’t even blink.

Excellently put. Still I find it odd how insular the States can be. There are excellent examples of gay marriage being allowed with little to no effect on the rest of society. Take for example South Africa, where I live, a country with a long history of conservatism and nationalism which was the first country in Africa to allow gay marriage. I remember being told in church as a child of the horrors which would pass should gay marriage be allowed. The marriage laws were passed and life went on, no churches were “infiltrated” or “undermined”, society did not fall apart. Today I am protected by the constitution and this protection is upheld by the police and the courts and South Africa receive top accolades for being a world-renowned business and tourist destination, even having hosted one of the most excellent football (soccer for the Americans) World Cups in history.

I fail to understand the religious right wing’s preoccupation with “banning” gay marriage. We’re not marrying them, we’re marrying each other!

She’s no nonsense, its a natural fit for her to speak out against nonsense like legislation against gay marriage. To be honest I’m just glad she’s on our side!

If the Judge doesn’t understand the preoccupation with gays being permitted to marry,” she should ask the gay community who were unwilling to accept the prevailing will of the people who voted it down in California. The Gays and Lesbians, determined to stampede over the expressed will of the people of California, took it to judicial activists to get what they want. If anybody has a “preoccupation with gays being permitted to marry,” it is the gays and lesbians themselves.
For her to frame gay marriage as “responsible tax-paying productive people” is unbelievable. What does the “tax-paying productive” aspect have to do with the right to marry. Should anybody be denied marriage if they are NOT “tax-paying” and “productive?” Totally off subject! But as for her defining marriage as “two people who love each other,” why should we stop there? Why shouldn’t this apply to polygamists, the incestuous, and pedophiles. I’m sure that NAMBLA (National Association of Man-Boy Love) would love for us to simply define marriage as “two people who love each other” regardless of age differences. As for the judge’s ignorance on why states would be concerned about gay marriage, she should be reminded that our nation was founded on the moral bedrock of the Judeo-Christian faith which condemns homosexuality. So, if the Judge can’t find justification for gay marriage from God’s law and America’s lawbooks, she should quit her TV show and go back to school. She needs an education.
